Cheers to your Labor Day Weekend!
|
|
This weekend marks the annual celebration of the hard working Americans who keep this country running. Labor Day Weekend signals the end of Summer in our minds today, and we celebrate the bittersweet weekend soaking up the sunshine at grill-outs and pool-side parties. With temperatures hovering around 100 degrees, we advise you to stay submerged in water with an ice cold beer in hand! Regardless of how you spend your scorching hot weekend, Fall is undoubtedly in the air. The Gophers have their first college football game of the season, students are dusting off their backpacks, and we've even spotted some Pumpkin Spice Lattes.
We hope you have a wonderful, much deserved, long weekend. Our shop is open and well-stocked, ready to provide you everything you need to keep your party going!

Friday: 9am - 10pm

With the cold Autumn air and changing colors of foliage, so comes the craving for a delicious sip of Bourbon. We swap out our Summer clear spirits for our spicy, caramelly brown whiskeys β it's Bourbon season! September marks National Bourbon Heritage Month, a celebration of America's Native Spirit. Whether you partake in the 30 Days Of Bourbon Challenge (try 30 different Bourbons in September), or just the occasional Bourbon Cocktail, we've got an impeccable collection of Bourbon to explore. With over 310 American Bourbons, you will have no problem finding new corn-based whiskeys to enjoy. In addition to Bourbon, we have over 215 international Scotches and international whiskeys from around the world β so retire your Summertime G&T and embrace the Seasonal shift!

National Bourbon Heritage Month, depending on who you ask, is actually Kentucky Bourbon Heritage Month. Either way, you can't celebrate Bourbon without recognizing the contributions of the Commonwealth of Kentucky to the culture of the United States. We LOVE Kentucky Bourbon, so much so we invested in a single barrel of Yellowstone Bourbon, selected amongst 15 barrels by our staff! We'd highly suggest snagging this exclusive bottling to kick start your September.

Cocktail of the Week: Battle of New Orleans
It is "National Bourbon Heritage Month" this month. I'm not sure what that means but I will throw together a classic Bourbon cocktail. The Battle of New Orleans isn't just a battle that happened between the U.S. and the British in 1815, it's also a tasty drink. It was first published in Crosby Gaige's cocktail guide in 1945. It is similar to a Sazerac but uses Bourbon instead of Rye or Cognac.

Staff Picks - What to Drink this Week
Try these special, staff-selected libations!
2022 Pierre-Olivier Bonhomme 'Le Telquel' Rose *Biodynamic - $23.99
As we come to the end of the dog days of summer, there is nothing I enjoy more than patio hangs with my pooch, watching the birds and bumblebees flit around my garden. Perhaps you've seen the red version of this wine in the shop, with its cartoon dachshund dog on the label, and the rose is perfect for these late summer days. Made mostly of Gamay, with its bright acidity, watermelon, citrus and berry flavors, it's a stellar match for summer salads and garden bounty. Pair with your next backyard BBQ or pool party!

2021 Gallety, VallΓ©e du Rhone blanc, Cotes du Vivarais - $24.99
I love being introduced to great wines from more obscure regions, especially across Europe, as I am an acknowledged Europhile. In France, just across the Rhone river from more well-known appellations of the Rhone Valley is the fairly new AOC of Cotes du Vivarais. Alain Gallety and his family have been farming organically here for over 40 years. Their white blend consists of 50% Grenache Blanc, 40% Marsanne, and 10% Roussanne grapes from old vines grown in clay and limestone soils at higher and wetter elevation than the other side of the river. Perfect for these grapes. The grapes are hand harvested and the winery's gravity flow system helps ensure freshness of the fruit. Fermentation is with native yeasts in stainless steel vats and aging is from 4 to 8 months in stainless steel. The aromas are fresh and the palate notes are of orchard fruits. It is well balanced between acidity and creaminess, lingering through a satisfying finish. Try this delicious wine from one of the lesser known areas of France's Rhone Valley with lobster mac and cheese with truffle oil!
