Locations:

  • Lacey City Hall Council Chambers, 420 College St SE. Doors open at 6:00 p.m.
  • Online via Zoom (registration required)

Program Description

In 1993, The Evergreen State College professor Stephanie Coontz shattered myths about family, sex, and marriage with her groundbreaking book, The Way We Never Were. In this talk, local historian Deborah Ross delves into newspaper articles, census data, and archives from early Thurston County to develop a picture of attitudes towards romance, marriage, and sexuality, that, surprisingly, aren't too different from today.

Speaker Bio

Deborah Ross has been researching and writing about Thurston County history for about twenty years. She serves on the editorial board of the Thurston County Historical Journal and produces the weekly "Looking Back" feature for the Sunday Olympian. Museum Programs

We're Moving!

The current museum, located in the Russell House on Lacey Street, is now closed. The museum will re-open its new location on 6th Ave. at the Bell Towne Centre early next year.

Space has always been a challenge for the museum, limiting the exhibits and activities it can host. The new Bell Center location provides over 1,100 square feet for exhibits, programs, events, interactive exhibits, and other uses. This expanded facility will allow the museum to showcase items that could not be previously displayed.

The existing museum location will become a dedicated research center where people can explore the museum library, archives, subject files, genealogy collections, and more.

We look forward to seeing you in our new space!
