November 2023

Dear Parents,

After a fun filled and busy October, we are ready to embark on a journey of appreciation by learning about our surroundings. After all, this is the month to acknowledge everything we are thankful for and to show gratitude! The LadyBug team is thankful for an amazing community and your continued partnership. We look forward to building more together!

“There is a calmness to a life lived in gratitude, a quiet joy."

Reminders:

Center Closures: Our Centers will be closed on November 10th in observance of Veterans Day, and November 23th & 24th for Thanksgiving.

School Updates:

Fall Progress Reports & Conferences:

We hope you had the opportunity to connect with the Teachers and discuss your child's fall progress reports during our virtual conferences. These reports are a reflection of children's classroom experience, highlighting their social-emotional, academic, and other developmental milestones. We hope to continue working with you to ensure the classroom is a safe & positive learning environment for each and every child.

Collaborate with us for upcoming Holiday Celebrations!

We would love for the Parents to collaborate with LadyBug Academy! If you are interested in participating during story time or a theme related activity, please coordinate the logistics with the Center Directors.

Additionally, we also invite you to share about your cultural celebrations and holidays. If you have any special holidays you celebrate, please reach out to us so we can incorporate those in our monthly theme calendar. We love to learn and teach about different holidays around the world!

Thanksgiving & Turkey Projects:

We are looking forward to our Thanksgiving & Turkey projects! Children will gather together to work on turkey crafts with their Teachers. We will also make thanksgiving cards for our peers and exchange them!

Thanksgiving Food Drive:

During this month of thankfulness, the LadyBug Team would like to organize a food drive. We are collaborating with Arlington Food Assistance Center (AFAC).

Some food items you may donate are low sodium canned tuna, beans, soup, low sugar cereal, and packaged pasta or rice. We will be collecting these food items between November 2nd to November 20th. If you are interested in donating, please leave donations at our front desk.

If you would like more information on AFAC, check out their website here.

Inclement Weather & Emergency Closures:

LadyBug Academy generally follows Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) inclement weather operating status determinations. When there is inclement weather, FCPS delays or closures will be published here.

For LadyBug Academy Courthouse, please click here for Arlington Public School closures.

A final decision on operating status for LadyBug Academy will be communicated via Brightwheel as soon as it can be determined.

In the event of other emergencies that are out of our control, such as electrical outages or loss of water service, etc, our Centers may be forced to close. In such circumstances, every attempt will be made to inform parents of an emergency closing as soon as possible.

Sleep Sack for Toddlers:

Toddlers love to explore around the classroom! As the toddlers prepare for nap time, we would like to ensure they are kept safe while exploring. Some of them have the habit of getting up from their nap mats as teachers are changing diapers or cleaning. If they do not have proper sleep sacks that allow safe movement, it increases the risk of accidents (such as tripping over).

If your child is in the toddler classroom (or transitioning to one), we encourage you to either send a blanket, or a sleep sack like the picture below.

We appreciate your cooperation!

Popular Themes & Events:

Astronomy:

Our Astronomy theme was admired by all students. Children took great interest in learning about the space, planets, and the universe. They impressively involved themselves in all the crafts and scientific experiments for the week. We did not know we were surrounded by so many Junior Astronauts LadyBug Academy!

Fire Prevention Week:

This is also a very popular theme that we love to revisit every year. Along with the importance of teaching children about fire safety, the response we receive from children regarding this topic is truly phenomenal. Like last year, we had a Fire Marshall visit us again! We greatly appreciate Mike for making this a memorable experience for our little ones.

Fall & Halloween Activities!

Pumpkin Carving:

Every fall, we have great fun carving pumpkins with the children. Teachers get so involved in showcasing their unique carving skills that we can never choose the best one!

Costume Parade:

We had our halloween and costume parade on October 31st. Children dressed up in their favorite costumes to parade around the classrooms and collect treats. We love to host this event every year!

Our Program & Enrichments:

LadyBug Academy offers a variety of educational activities for children. Each week’s educational activities are based on weekly themes. Weekly themes cover different topics related to science, social studies, arts, culture, language, and more. All theme-related activities consider the children’s interests, backgrounds, age, as well as their development.

Additionally, LadyBug Academy program features a daily enrichment focus each day:

  • Math – Mathematical Mondays
  • Language – Reading Tuesdays
  • Spanish – Hola Wednesdays
  • Science - Scientific Thursdays
  • Music – Musical Fridays

This newsletter, we would like to provide more information on our Math enrichment. On Mondays, Teachers plan mathematical activities and lessons based on the class level. They include: number recognition/counting; shape & color recognition; pattern & measurements; sorting & classifying; problem-solving; and play-based learning. We encourage children to apply these lessons during free play and storytelling. They respond very well!

Connecting Through Parenthood - The Tabb Family

Hello from the Tabb Family! We're Josh and Amanda and our kids are Zach and Lucy. Zach joined LadyBug 2 when he was 10 months old and is now in Ms. Dia's class as a thriving almost 4 year old! His sister, Lucy, 17 months, recently moved up to Ms. Monica's Toddler class and has done so well with the transition.

As we all know, we live in a time where there is a constant flow of information right at our fingertips for better or for worse. Related to that, we are in a constant barrage of parenting advice - there are so many parenting accounts to follow on social media, podcasts, advice columns, newsletters, you name it! And while that can be so wonderful in terms of finding help, guidance, & feeling not so alone in an issue you may be dealing with, I think it's also important to know when to throw all of that out the window. Josh and I have both learned that sometimes it is best to just do whatever is right for your child and their specific needs and listen to your gut despite all the noise. Staying in tune and present with our children helps us to figure out how to navigate different situations with them, so ultimately they feel best supported and know that mom and dad will have their back & be there for them no matter what.

If you would like to share your parenting experience with the LadyBug Academy community, please reach out to Ms. Saima at [email protected]

We are looking forward to hearing about your journey!

Staff Spotlight

Ms. Mireylin Garcia
Pre-K Lead Teacher

Hello LadyBug families! My name is Mireylin and I'm from Guatemala. I'm one of the Lead Teachers in Pre-K at LadyBug Academy 2. I have always enjoyed being around children and learning about their unique approaches. I admire their endless energy. From my journey of enrolling in Early Childhood courses to volunteering at a Church, I believe helping these children grow from every aspect is the most rewarding job. I 'm excited to continue gathering experience in this field. I feel thankful that LadyBug Academy has provided me with this opportunity. I'm greatly enjoying my time here. The children are adorable and it's such a fun team to be a part of.

Fun fact: I love nature! I enjoy exploring different lakes and fishing with my family.
