December 2021
Dear Parents,

The Holiday Season is here! From lights & decorations to spending time with our loved ones, winter brings to us endless joy. At Ladybug Academy, we're proud to keep up with the holiday spirits and have a very fun December planned for us all. We are beyond excited and look forward to stepping into the new year together!

School Updates:

Virtual Parent-Teacher Conferences:

We had a very successful and productive virtual parent-teacher conference on November 11th. We would like to thank everyone who took the time to virtually meet with the Teachers.
In addition, we held a short training for our Staff on positive disciplining and class management at Ladybug Academy.
With a great team on board, we always look forward to these events.

Holiday Food Drive:

This season is all about giving. Ladybug Academy is collaborating with Arlington Food Assistance Center (AFAC) to help those in need. The fight against hunger is a fight for us all. We will have a donation box located at the door for those that are interested in donating food. Some food items you may donate are low sodium canned tuna, beans, soup, low sugar cereal, and packaged pasta or rice. We will be collecting these food items between December 1st to December 10th.

If you would like more information on AFAC, check out their website here.

A Focus on the Solar System:

We take pride in adding Science enrichments to our monthly calendars. This month, we will focus on the Solar System for a week. Children will gain great knowledge of the different planets. It will be exciting to get crafty and scientific with this topic!

Center Closures:

Our Centers will be closed on December 23rd & December 24th for Christmas, as well as December 30th & December 31st for the New Year!
We wish you all a very happy holiday!

If you plan on keeping your child home for the holidays, please let us know ahead of time so we can accommodate Staff time-off requests. It is the holiday season and we would like to make sure our staff members are also getting the break they deserve!

If you would like to check the closures for 2022, please click here.

Inclement Weather Closures: LadyBug Academy loosely follows Fairfax County schools inclement weather closing policy. For more information, go to the Fairfax County Public School website here. The status of our operations during an inclement weather closing will be posted on Brightwheel as soon as it can be determined.

Other Emergencies: In the event of a weather-related emergency (e.g., ice storm, electrical outage, no water service), our center may be forced to close. In this circumstance, every attempt will be made to inform parents of an emergency closing as soon as possible.
Holiday Vibes!

We are very excited about our upcoming holiday events and projects. We will be celebrating various holidays that will provide students the opportunity to learn more about diversity. We will also explore the beauty of winter and participate in fun winter educational themes!

In addition, we will be participating in a fun holiday tradition once a week - such as a mix & match holiday socks day, pajama day, crazy hair or hat day, and ugly sweater day!

Holiday Gift Fund for Teachers!

One of the Parents at Ladybug Academy, Andrea Huggins, is taking the initiative of collecting a Holiday Gift Fund for Teachers. If you're interested in contributing to the fund, please see the message below:

Holiday Gift Giving Made Easy!
This holiday season, consider participating in an optional parent-led fundraiser to provide a financial gift to all Ladybug teachers!
Suggested donations are $25 per family, but you are welcome to give any amount. The total raised will be divided evenly amongst the teachers at Ladybug 1 and 2 and distributed the week of December 20.

If you’d like to participate, please Venmo funds to @AMSHuggins with a note that this is a Ladybug Teacher Gift no later than December 15th.
Skip the mall, make your life easier, and participate in this brand new initiative!

Have additional questions? Feel free to reach out to Ms. Ola at:
[email protected] or Andrea (McKenna’s Mom, Investigators class) at: [email protected].

We would like to thank Andrea Huggins for this thoughtful initiative, as well as those who plan to participate.

Staff Updates
Megan Brenne
Toddler Lead Teacher

Hello! My name is Megan Brenne and I am originally from a small town in southwest Michigan. My relationship brought me to Virginia (Go Army), which is a place I thought I’d never be in, but I’m happy to be here! I have about 9 years of experience working with children. I started babysitting when I was 14 and from there I’ve been a full-time Nanny as well as the Manager of a Kid’s Club. I received an Associate’s Degree in Business Administration from Kalamazoo Valley Community College and a Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing from Western Michigan University. After accepting a marketing job when I first moved here, I realized that an office job was not bringing me joy and I missed working with children everyday! That’s when I found Ladybug Academy.

Here, I hope to impact every child who enters my class in a positive way. Toddlers especially, discover new things everyday and my goal is to give them the tools and knowledge to learn and discover as much as they can.
