BC's Business Voice During COVID-19
PULSE-CHECK SURVEY SHOWS MANY B.C. BUSINESSES IN NEED OF LIFE SUPPORT
|
|
|
News release: @vlitwin says: "There’s no doubt governments want to find the right solution for businesses, but entrepreneurs are sending a clear message to Ottawa and Victoria: time is running out,"
The COVID-19 crisis is significantly hurting British Columbia businesses and their employees. In the past two weeks alone, approximately half of the 1,900 businesses surveyed have experienced revenue decreases of 75% or more, while two-thirds have seen revenues drop by 50% or more.
This is according to a survey of the members of the BC Chamber of Commerce and its regional chamber network, the Greater Vancouver Board of Trade, and the Business Council of British Columbia, with the assistance of the Mustel Group. This is the first in a series of bi-weekly pulse checks using the BCMindReader.com platform.
The data paints an ominous picture of what businesses and workers are experiencing now and what they expect to face in the future:

|
|
A message from Chris O'Riley, President & CEO of BC Hydro
The last month has been challenging. COVID-19 has meant many changes for us as individuals, and for our communities.
At BC Hydro, we recognize many of our small business customers are struggling, with some forced to close. We want to help.
This week, we introduced a COVID-19 Relief Fund to help our customers who have had to close their small business as a result of COVID-19.
The Relief Fund delivers support to you now, when you need it most
If your small business needed to close, the Relief Fund waives your electricity use charges.
· Charges will be waived for up to three months.
· You will not have to pay this back.
· The application window opens soon, and you can apply until June 30, 2020.
All businesses are also eligible to defer payments or arrange a flexible payment plan to help pay their BC Hydro bills.

COVID-19: 7 steps to sustain your business through the disruption
|
|
|
You can follow these steps to rapidly forecast your cash flow
The COVID-19 pandemic is having widespread effects on businesses across the country. By mid-March, 73% of companies were already feeling the negative effect of the crisis, according to a BDC survey of over 600 Canadian entrepreneurs.
In times of crisis, cash becomes even more important than it usually is for a company.
Creating a detailed
continuity plan
and cash flow forecast will help you sustain ongoing operations, albeit at a lower capacity, and facilitate recovery once the crisis is over.
We have all been forced to adapt to what is going on, and we must work through this. We hope the following steps will give you the clarity you need to anticipate and respond on a day-to-day basis, allow you to control your cash flow, and establish operational resilience.
