Join Minister Sheila Malcolmson as she shares the newly announced TogetherBC Poverty Reduction Strategy with a focus on the latest employment actions!

Following an extensive amount of public and community engagement, the Provincial Government of BC will be announcing new recommended actions in their TogetherBC Poverty Reduction Strategy.



Minister of Social Development and Poverty Reduction, Sheila Malcolmson will be presenting an overview of the newly released TogetherBC Strategy with a focus on the recommended actions employers can take to support poverty reduction with their employees and in the community.

We will also have a presentation from Bonaventure Support Services to learn about their services available that support employees with diversabilities.

This session is the fourth in a series of Employment Seminars as identified in the Town of Ladysmith's Community Together to End Poverty Hw-nuts'-ulwum Strategy utilizing funds from the Union of BC Municipalities Poverty Reduction Planning and Actions Grant.

This session will offer a presentation with a Q&A followed by a complimentary networking lunch.

Have your say in Creating a Transportation Plan for Ladysmith & the Surrounding Communities!

In April and May of 2024, a transportation survey was conducted to hear from residents in the Ladysmith and surrounding communities about the current gaps with existing transportation services, what the needs are in getting around and what ideas participants have that might work best to fill the gaps.

The top four options for improvements heard from respondents included:

• incorporating a neighbourhood shuttle with a hop-on, hop-off type style of service; 
• expanding infrastructure for safe cycling and scooters; 
• improving the reliability of the local taxi service; and 
• recruiting a local rideshare service.

A Transportation Info Exchange Event is also planned for Monday, July 15, 2024 from 4pm to 7pm at the Heart on the Hill located at 314 Buller Street. This will offer an in-person drop in opportunity to share how the four options would work best, map out the neighbourhoods that need servicing & learn about services that are currently available.

Town of Ladysmith News...

The Fair Care Alliance, in a united effort, are demanding a rectification to the severe inequality of healthcare on Vancouver Island for the 460,000 citizens living north of the Malahat.

Nanaimo Regional General Hospital (NRGH), our 60-year-old 346 tertiary hospital consistently serves over 400 patients in the second fastest growing community in Canada. A detailed 2010 report sited NRGH as being woefully inadequate and un-safe and yet no action has been taken.

Our political, medical, business, Indigenous and community at large are standing shoulder to shoulder to ensure the planning process for a new tower begins immediately and commitment to a Cath Lab is made.

Our goal is to have 100,000 signatures on this petition ... add your name to demand fair healthcare!
