Summer update from the Chamber & Visitor Centre
Happy Summer!

Here it is over half way through July already and we are sending out our last newsletter for the summer. Important announcements will still be sent out as needed as well as E-Blasts requested by Chamber Members.
Be sure to follow the Chamber on Facebook and Instagram as well! The Board takes a break through the summer but that doesn’t mean that the Chamber wheels stop turning. 😊

The Ladysmith Chamber Staff have been busy providing visitor services to visitors and locals. We are thrilled to have our Summer Students /Tourism Counsellors, Peyton Kong and Keizo Tollefson back again this year providing excellent visitor services and allowing for staff summer vacations. Keep an eye out for Keizo on Sundays down at Transfer Beach and/or at events. Peyton has been doing a great job with social media posts for Tourism Ladysmith & Locals Love Ladysmith.

Ladysmith Chamber Memorial Golf Classic
The Ladysmith Chamber of Commerce hosted its 14th Annual Golf Classic on Friday June 16th. The sold out event in honour of Brian Marshall, a prominent, well respected member of our business community, left participants and attendees happy and energized after a day of friendly competition and networking. The event, held at the Cottonwood Golf Course brought together local business leaders, community members, and golf enthusiasts for a day filled with camaraderie, excitement, and support for the local economy.

Invite for Ladysmith Tourism Stakeholders
The Ladysmith Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Centre would like to welcome Tourism Cowichan for Tourism Tuesday Aug 15. Pop by the Visitor Centre to meet in-person with Kenzie Knight, Coordinator for Tourism Cowichan. Kenzie will be available between 10am-3pm on Aug 15 to discuss the range of support available to Cowichan tourism stakeholders.
 
Tourism Cowichan Society supports destination marketing for tourism and hospitality focused businesses or organizations operating in the Cowichan Region. Please join Kenzie for some discussion on tourism in our region and learn how you can gain access to a wide range of benefits and opportunities that will help grow your tourism business.
 
You can book a 30-minute time slot with Kenzie in advance by emailing [email protected] or just pop in for a conversation!
 
This is also an opportunity to have a conversation with Millie or Jacquie about how your business can be represented in the Ladysmith Visitor Centre. Pick up maps, guides, brochures so you can better represent Cowichan in your business.

Transfer Beach Food Truck Concession
 The Transfer Beach Food Truck Concession (administered by the Ladysmith Chamber of Commerce) is in it's 7th Season and runs May long weekend (Friday May 19th 2023) through to Labour Day in September DAILY FROM 11-7 AT TRANSFER BEACH.

BC Chamber of Commerce Releases 2023-2024 Policies & Positions Manual
The BC Chamber of Commerce has released its 2023-2024 Policies & Positions Manual that contains 61 policies adopted by members at the 71st AGM and Conference in Whistler last month. The policies cover a broad spectrum of provincial and federal issues critical to the success of B.C.’s business community.
“The manual reflects what our members view as the most important issues that need to be addressed by government to support their communities and members,” said Fiona Famulak, President and CEO of the BC Chamber of Commerce. “Through the policies contained in this year’s manual, our network is asking governments to leverage B.C.’s strong foundation as a springboard to a future where businesses are successful, families thrive and communities flourish.”
Local Chambers of Commerce and Boards of Trade are attuned to the issues that are important to their communities. This year’s manual includes new policies that address taxation, Indigenous reconciliation, housing, public safety, infrastructure, and workforce issues. Some notable examples include:
Town of Ladysmith
One more week remains to submit your application for the Town's Community Planning Advisory Committee (CPAC). The committee has several two-year term vacancies.
The CPAC mandate is to provide feedback to applicants and advise Council on land use applications, policies, regulations and other initiatives.
Applicants should have experience related to economic and social development, housing design, heritage or the environment.
Please send us your completed application form by 4:00 pm on Friday, July 27, 2023.
