Sign up to participate in Poverty Challenges March 29 - April 9
|
Ladysmith, March 10, 2021,
Can you live on a three-day food allowance that is based on social assistance? What would it be like to get around by only accessing public or active transportation for three days? What would you do with 12 hours out in the community with nowhere to go?
For some Ladysmith and Stz’uminus residents this is everyday reality.
The CommUNITY Together to End Poverty Hw-nuts'-ulwum (As One) project is launching three Poverty Challenges to raise awareness about some of the struggles facing those living in poverty. Between March 29th and April 9th, you are invited to participate in one or more of these challenges:
- Food Allowance Challenge: Live off a food allowance budget based on social assistance for three days.
- Public/Active Transportation Challenge: Use only public or active transportation for three days.
- 12 Hour "Nowhere To Go" Challenge: Spend 12 hours in our community with nowhere to go.
Sign up for the Poverty Challenges now through the project website and put yourself in the shoes of a fellow community member living in poverty.

Get your local business on the regional government's purchasing radar
|
The Cowichan Valley Regional District (CVRD) is developing a directory of local businesses delivering community values to be used for more immediate and routine purchasing needs. Businesses will be able to get their name onto this directory by completing a simple form through a Request for Information (RFI) process that the CVRD has launched in partnership with the Coastal Communities …
|
Participation is easy with these three steps:
-
Register for a free vendor account in the CVRD’s e-sourcing platform, Bonfire
-
Download and fill out the RFI form
- Submit the RFI using the Bonfire platform before April 30, 2021 at 4:00 p.m
The CVRD is hosting an online information session on April 1, 2021, at noon, for an overview of the process, a walk-through on completing the Request for Information forms and to answer questions. Register for the session here.

BC Chamber Welcomes Announced Changes to the Small and Medium Sized Business Recovery Grant
|
|
Changes are celebrated as grant becomes more available to qualifying businesses across British Columbia
The BC Chamber of Commerce applauds the B.C. government’s announcement to extend the deadline for the Small and Medium Sized Business Recovery Grant and decrease the revenue loss threshold that will allow more businesses to access the grant.
“We appreciate the B.C. government’s willingness to hear the feedback from businesses across the province and to take timely steps to adjust the grant program so that the financial support can be accessed more easily,” said Fiona Famulak, president and CEO of the BC Chamber of Commerce. “The announced changes will go a long way to helping businesses in every sector, and particularly those sectors hardest hit, to navigate these very challenging times.”
