ABOUT THE PLAY

He has never ventured alone beyond the end of his road, he detests being touched, and he distrusts strangers. Now it is seven minutes after midnight, and Christopher stands beside his neighbor’s dead dog, Wellington, who has been speared with a garden fork. Finding himself under suspicion, Christopher is determined to solve the mystery of who murdered Wellington, and he carefully records each fact of the crime. But his detective work, forbidden by his father, takes him on a thrilling journey that upturns his world.

ABOUT THE MUSICAL
Step into the enchanted world of Broadway's classic, Beauty and the Beast, an international sensation based on the Academy Award-winning animated feature. The stage version includes all of the wonderful songs written by Alan Menken and the late Howard Ashman, along with new songs by Mr. Menken and Tim Rice, and was nominated for nine Tony Awards, including Best Musical.

This "tale as old as time" tells the story of Belle, a bright and independent young woman taken prisoner by a beast in his castle. If the Beast can learn to love and be loved in return, and if Belle can see the true heart and soul of the beast within, the curse will end and he and the enchanted inhabitants of his castle will be transformed back into their former selves. But time is running out and he and his household could be doomed for all eternity.

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 17
9AM-12PM
September is Coastal Cleanup Month! Please plan to join the Laguna community on Miramar/Hammonds Beach for California's Annual Coastal Cleanup Day on Saturday, September 17! It's a fun way to start the day and will help remove trash and plastic pollution from our beaches. In 2019, over 74,000 volunteers picked up more than 900,000 pounds of trash from beaches and waterways throughout California.

If you can't join us in person, you can participate in a self-guided neighborhood cleanup by picking up trash in your neighborhood, local park, and other areas. Trash from inland areas flows downstream to the coast, so cleaning up neighborhood trash prevents marine debris. Gather cleanup supplies from home, download the CleanSwell app (to count your trash, and to have your trash counted!), and clean on your own time throughout September.

See you at the beach!
THERE'S STILL TIME TO SWOOP INTO SUMMER READING!
Although summer is coming to a close, there's still time to sneak in one last book! At Laguna, there is suggested summer reading for students in Grades EK-4 and required reading for students in Grades 5-12.
