SENIORS WELCOMED TO THE ALUMNI COMMUNITY AT CELEBRATORY LUNCH
On June 15, the Class of 2022 enjoyed a delicious taco lunch on Merritt Patio where they were officially welcomed into the ranks of the alumni association. The annual Senior-to-Alumni Lunch follows the last senior project presentation and provides our newest graduates a glimpse into their new roles as alumni. Upper School Math Teacher Paul Chiment shared poignant remarks about how important it is to maintain their strong bonds with each other in the years to come.

"Priceless treasures, like the oldest of friends, are few and far between," Paul said. "Right now, under these trees, you're holding on to one of these treasures. Please, take this advice: don't let go."

Thank you to the alumni pictured above who have volunteered to be class reps and will help everyone stay connected.
PHOEBE RAY '22 NAMED SENIOR PROJECT WINNER
The Class of 2022 officially completed the last assignment of their high school careers on Monday, June 13 and Tuesday, June 14 during their Senior Project presentations.

“This year, our seniors captivated us with relevant and memorable presentations,” says Senior Project Program Director Trish McHale. “We heard about the value of meditation and reiki, how to create a miniature diorama, marketing, design, and finance. We went to the zoo and farms and looked under the hoods of automobiles and airplanes. The presentations were all outstanding.”

For her project, Senior Project Award Winner Phoebe Ray created and embarked on a journey of self-discovery. Phoebe grew up being told she is of Jewish heritage and was determined to dig deeper into the true meaning of this. As she persistently pursued this part of her identity, Phoebe worked with a local Rabbi and traveled north to Half Moon Bay to interview seven family members—some who actively practice Judaism and some who don’t—through which she discovered how historical circumstances interrupted the beliefs that had defined her ancestors for generations.

LAGUNA FOURTH GRADERS SPREAD THEIR WINGS AT LOWER SCHOOL CLOSING CEREMONY
By Joanne A Calitri, Montecito Journal

The Laguna Blanca Lower School 2022 Graduation (“Go Owls!”) was held on Thursday, June 9 outside at the school.

The welcome and remarks were given by Head of Lower School and Assistant Head of School Andy Surber and the new Interim Head of Lower School Anna Alldredge, as Surber is moving on. Head of Middle School Shane Lopes also spoke.

Surber said, “It has been an amazing year of learning and growth at Laguna Blanca Lower School. The 19 students who graduate today exemplify what it means to be a Laguna Blanca Owl. They are bright, caring, talented, and ready to make an impact as they move to the fifth grade. I speak on behalf of the entire faculty that we are grateful for their contributions to our community and the leadership they showed while serving on our student council. I am so proud of this class and look forward to seeing their future successes!”
KATIE POINTER HONORED WITH FACULTY EXCELLENCE AWARD
Chemistry Teacher Katie Pointer was presented with Laguna Blanca’s 2022 Faculty Excellence Award at the Upper School Awards Ceremony. Voted on by a committee of colleagues in each division, including past award recipients, this award is given annually to a teacher who demonstrates both excellence in teaching and dedication to Laguna Blanca School and its students.

Wholeheartedly embodying each of Laguna’s four core values of Scholarship, Character, Balance, and Community, Katie inspires students and colleagues alike. Her dedication to her craft and her genuine commitment to cultivating healthy, caring relationships with her students is evident both inside the classroom and out.
LA HONDA YEARBOOK IS UNVEILED
This year's yearbook was distributed on the Hope Ranch campus on Friday, June 10. Themed Full Bloom, the book celebrates the 2021-22 school year and campus returning to life again this spring after the ups and downs of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Intricate graphics created by Lucy Wang '24 and inspired by California wildflowers adorn the cover and the pages throughout, which can be colored in and customized by each student. The book is a beautiful reflection of the La Honda editors' vision to create "a vehicle for its owner's individual expression." Contests will be held this fall for the best-colored yearbook.

Full Bloom is dedicated to beloved Peter "Ace" Angeloff and the indelible legacy he has left at Laguna.

Congratulations to the La Honda team for creating a meaningful keepsake for us to enjoy for years to come!
