This week in sixth grade science, students were introduced to the first main body system—the integumentary system. Just in time for Halloween, students took on the role of special effects make-up artists and created realistic "zombie wounds" on their skin using petroleum jelly, 1-ply toilet paper, red food coloring, and cocoa powder. Many students showcased their creativity by also incorporating additional materials. Before beginning their projects, they selected a specific type of burn or wound, such as a laceration or puncture, to accurately recreate. Moving forward, students will delve into the structure and function of the skin, exploring the fascinating processes involved in wound formation and healing. |
