INDOOR MASKING FOR LOCAL SCHOOLS REMAINS UNCHANGED
We have been notified that the Santa Barbara County Public Health Department will rescind the indoor masking order effective Wednesday, February 16, 2022, in alignment with the State’s Health Officer Order. The notification states, “Please note that universal masking will remain required in specified settings including, but not limited to, public transit, indoors in K-12 schools, childcare, shelters, healthcare settings, correctional facilities, and other care facilities.” Therefore, Laguna Blanca students, faculty, staff, and guests are still required to wear masks while indoors. Laguna Blanca students, faculty, staff, and guests are not required to mask outdoors unless in crowded outdoor settings, and for activities where there is prolonged close contact with others, ie: gatherings in Ruston Amphitheatre or playing on the playground in close proximity to others at the Lower School. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding!
TESTING
We encourage all families to utilize testing services through Aptitude at Earl Warren Showgrounds whenever required by the school or when you feel it would be a good idea to be tested. Laguna Blanca students test for free through this service.
If you haven’t registered your child yet, you may do so in person when you arrive for testing. Delays can be shortened by pre-registering.
While we realize this may be an inconvenient step for your family, receiving accurate, streamlined test results in a timely manner is advantageous for our COVID team and benefit our community as a whole.
If you are not able to test through Aptitude, we still require PCR-level tests.
Aptitude test results will generally be available at midnight instead of 9PM on the date tested if submitted by the cut-off time (2:30PM for Santa Barbara site). The samples collected after the cut-off time will yield results by 2PM the next day.
COVID SYMPTOM MONITORING
Thank you for monitoring your child for the following COVID-like symptoms and swiftly reporting positive COVID test results to [email protected]. Contact your healthcare provider if you have any additional medical questions.

• Fever or chills
• Cough
• Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing

Monday is Dress Down Day with a Valentine's Day theme. Students may come to school in clothing that shows off the colors and images of Valentine’s Day!

SNACKS AND LUNCHES
Now is a good time to check in with your child regarding snacks and lunches, likes and dislikes, more food or less food. Also, please remember to send a water bottle to school every day with your child. Be sure that the bottle is labeled with the child's name. In addition, you might want to consider increasing food portions for your growing child now that we are into our sixth month of the school year.
OUTERWEAR
We have many pieces of outerwear in the Lost and Found bin, but we cannot return items to students if the outerwear is not labeled with a name. Take time this weekend to check your child's jackets and sweaters for proper labeling. Remind your child that their cubby is the best place to leave outerwear at school.
ABSENCES
If you know in advance that your child will be absent or leaving early/arriving late on a particular day, please be sure to let both the teacher and Mrs. McDavid know.
LOWER SCHOOL BUS
Attention, Lower School bus-riding families: please be on time to pick up your child at the afternoon bus drop-off in Hope Ranch. The bus is scheduled to arrive by 3:30. Families are responsible for supervising their children if they choose to remain on campus after pick-up. There should be no tree climbing or entering the indoor areas. Thank you!

WEEKLY TIP FROM DIRECTOR OF COLLEGE COUNSELING MATT STRUCKMEYER
|
|
With admission rates still plummeting at Ivy League-ish colleges, and where luck plays a big role in getting in, the ancient universities of Scotland and Ireland are worth a second look. Edinburgh, St Andrews, Glasgow, and Trinity College all enroll large numbers of Americans, and all offer Ivy-comparable educations for thousands less. The difference? Admission is much more straightforward, and extracurricular accomplishments matter very little. What’s more, admissions decisions come out within weeks rather than months.
