ABOUT THE PLAY
15-year-old Christopher has an extraordinary brain. He is exceptional at mathematics but ill-equipped to interpret everyday life. He has never ventured alone beyond the end of his road, he detests being touched, and he distrusts strangers. Now it is 7 minutes after midnight, and Christopher stands beside his neighbor’s slain dog, Wellington. Finding himself under suspicion, Christopher is determined to solve the mystery of who murdered Wellington, and he carefully records each fact of the crime. But his detective work, forbidden by his father, takes him on a thrilling journey that upturns his world.

Winner of the 2015 Tony Award for Best Play. “This adaptation by the acclaimed playwright Simon Stephens is intensely, innately theatrical; it is also funny and extremely moving…resonates with quality.” — Telegraph (London). “…just terrific…a profoundly moving play about adolescence, fractured families, mathematics, colours and lights…dazzling.” — Independent (London). “A beautiful, eloquent, dazzlingly inventive show about the wonders of life.” — Evening Standard (London).

Please note the play includes mature themes and explicit language.

LOWER SCHOOL DRESS DOWN DAY TOMORROW, 1/13
Students may come dressed in items that celebrate their favorite sports team.

The Lower School occasionally designates “dress down” days when students do not need to follow the uniform dress code. On these days, students may wear their choice of shorts, nice blue jeans, leggings, pants, skirts, tops and/or dresses. T-shirts must be free of objectionable words or images and not be a typical undershirt. Athletic shoes of any color continue to be the required footwear for students. Pajama pants and other sleepwear are not normally permitted.
TOMORROW: PIZZA FOR LUNCH!
As an expression of gratitude for the excellent Laguna Fund participation at our Lower School (100%!), a pizza lunch has been organized for students and faculty to enjoy on Friday, 1/13!

Families, please still plan on sending a regular lunch (hot lunch or packed) as the pizza will be an extra treat. We will have gluten/dairy-free and vegetarian options.

Thank you, Lower School families!
THIRD AND FOURTH GRADE ERB EXAMS BEGIN NEXT WEEK
Third and Fourth grade students will have their Educational Records Bureau (ERB) exams next week, beginning Tuesday, January 17.

Families, here are steps you can take to help your child be best prepared for next week:
  1. Plan for your child to arrive on time to school during the testing session.
  2. Give your child a good night’s sleep and a healthy breakfast. Most of the exams are given in the morning. Please make sure that your child has enough sleep and the energy provided by a good morning meal.
  3. Help your child to take the assessments with confidence. Do not feel your child needs to study for the tests, and please do not put pressure on your child to answer each question correctly. These assessments are extremely challenging. Encourage your child not to worry if they do not know all the answers, and encourage your child to “do your best, try your hardest, and show what you know."
  4. Mrs. Green and Mrs. Richter will lighten homework during ERB testing to encourage sleep and give downtime after taking these challenging assessments.
  5. For students who are absent during ERB exams, we will work to have students take the exams when they return in-person, as long as the testing window is open. ERB exams close 2/25/23.

SECOND GRADE ENJOYS CALIFORNIA PIZZA KITCHEN LUNCH WITH AP ENGLISH CLASS
Yesterday, Mrs. Vance's second grade class met Ms. Dryden's AP English class at California Pizza Kitchen. This exciting lunch was a culminating activity for the health and nutrition unit the second class completed with Science Teacher Ms. Butler, and it was also the springboard for their upcoming procedural writing projects. Students enjoyed a behind-the-scenes restaurant tour, including an interactive pizza-making demo from certified pizza chefs, and a glimpse into how their kitchens make delicious culinary magic happen. They discovered how a restaurant works from the inside out! Mrs. Vance's class will continue to partner with their buddies from Ms. Dryden's class again this year to embark on more adventures in language arts!
