Meet the Students

My name is Brooke Liles and I am currently a second-year student of the College of Lake County as well as the SADHA president for my dental hygiene program. My husband and I moved from California to Grayslake in 2019 and I started at CLC shortly after. Being new to the Midwest I have very much enjoyed the changing of the seasons, fall leaves and even the snow. My husband is active duty Navy and proudly trains the new recruits at Great Lakes Naval Base but that means he works 100+ hours a week. I have an amazing 12-year-old step-son and two crazy dogs who keep me very busy. I got into dental hygiene because I know first-hand how lack of education and access can greatly affect a family. Growing up we had challenges with access to dental care and after working in a dental office I knew that dental hygiene was perfect for me. I’ve always wanted to work in health science of some kind but wasn’t sure which direction that would be. Seeing how much a simple conversation about oral health and showing that you care, can impact a patient and their health was huge for me. I want to be able to help people gain access and knowledge of dental health so that I can make an impact in peoples’ health and lives. I love being able to actively help improve oral health concerns by doing a prophylaxis but also being able to make the personal connection that causes long-term improvement.

I’m currently a second year dental hygiene student at the College of Lake County. I chose dental hygiene as a career because of my own insecurities that I’ve suffered regarding my smile. I’m really looking forward to helping others regain their confidence and improve their self image when it comes to their teeth, as well as spreading awareness about the importance of oral health!

Taylar Miller

Currently, I am a second-year dental hygiene student at College of Lake County. While I am new to the world of dentistry, I have quickly learned that it is my passion! I knew that I wanted to pursue a career as a dental hygienist after a personal experience. I had an accident that led to me breaking both of my front teeth. The process to repair the damage was long. However, it allowed me to find a new respect for those that work in the dental field. They help people not only with their appearance but also their oral and overall health. I was able to regain the confidence I had lost after my accident. I cannot wait to help others the same way all those people helped me! I know that being a dental hygienist will allow me to make a positive impact in the world one smile at a time.
