October is Economic and Community Development Month

Please enjoy, learn and be inspired by this week's Lake Views newsletter of Lake Chelan Rotary. We are proud of the community and international service we have provided since 1926 to the Lake Chelan region.

Our club meets every Tuesday at 11:45 a.m. at Tsillan Cellars in Sorrento's Ristorante. Our satellite meeting is held at The Vogue, the Valley's Gathering Place, on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month at 7 a.m. Please join us at either of these meetings, and feel free to bring a guest interested in Rotary.

Program for October 23, 2018
Personalized Learning through Innovative Education at Manson High
Speakers: Jennifer Koth and Addie Gragreda
Program Sponsors: Diane Leigh and Dan Hodge
Our speakers this week will be Jennifer Koth, Manson High School's Career Choices teacher, and Addie Gragreda, who is Manson High School's Post-Secondary Coordinator in charge of the Internship Program. Some amazing things are happening at Manson High School. Students are engaged in student-led learning that creates a natural integration of courses as they explore topics not traditionally offered in a small school. Their studies are exciting, relevant and multi-faceted - involving project-based learning, opportunities for internships, college credits, and a lot more. Emphasis is put on helping students with post-high school preparation, from mock job interviews, to the Buzz on Biz Entrepreneurial Program supported by our own Rotary club, to individualized teacher advocates who guide students to be successful in their college or career choices.
Pingrey Park Cleanup...Complete

On Saturday, October 13, Community Service Team 2 was joined by other Rotarians as Fall cleanup of the Pingrey Park wall and surrounding landscape wrapped up. Watch for exciting changes next year to this gateway into Chelan as the planned mural project progresses. Thank you to Ty Witt, Lester Cooper, Karen Feek, Randi Burchett, Don Christenson, Kelly Allen, Randy Brooks, Lisa Wells and Karen Takagi for your efforts. It looks great! With that being said, the community projects have come to an end for the season. Stay tuned for next year!
Road Clean-Up

Trash removed from Woodin roadway? Check!! Thanks much to Tom Walters, Tom Tochterman, Ron Hart, Mary Watson, Ezequiel Baldovinos, Karen Takagi, Mary Pat Schofield and Krysta Westmoreland for putting on the gloves and vests, and helping clean up the road!

He was a Professor in Graduate School at UW for 11 years, and has acted as an Owners Representative for corporations and families, guiding major construction projects throughout the Pacific Northwest. Barry's next project will be the construction of the Lake Chelan Community Hospital and Clinics. He and his wife (Shannon) relocated from Bellevue to their home up Antoine Creek, and strongly believe in the concept of service and participation in their community.

Our  October Club Social will be on October 24 at the Lake Chelan Chamber where we will hold a  World's Greatest Meal to End Polio . Please bring your beverage(s) of choice, and a food dish to share. Plan to be part of this awareness campaign which will occur at Rotary clubs around the world to highlight Rotary's efforts to eradicate polio.  We will have the opportunity to watch a live streaming presentation from Barry Rassin, Rotary International President. Want to learn more about how Rotary is working to do this? Go to http://www.endpolio.org/
