Lake Chelan Rotary Installation Dinner Held on July 9
2018-2019 Club Officers and Directors were welcomed to the new Rotary year at the Installation Dinner on July 9, which was held on the beautiful upper terrace at Tsillan Cellars, with approximately 55 members in attendance. A grand entrance was planned by incoming President Ty Witt, whose attempt to paraglide to the field next to the event site was thwarted by windy conditions on the Butte. Here he is shown preparing for flight.

Paragliders from around the world were in Chelan this week for the 2018 U.S. Open and Canadian Nationals of Paragliding. Chelan is a potential contender for the Paragliding World Cup next year. As a guest speaker, we were joined by Lindsay Matush, second ranked female paraglider pilot in the world and founder of Vario Philanthropy, who is competing in the event. The name Vario comes from an instrument used in flight – a variometer – which provides critical information to tell an aircraft how quickly it’s going up or down. Lindsay had flown from the Chelan Butte to Oroville for the day's competition.(Editor's note: While additional photos from the event were captured, they were inadvertently erased - if any members in attendance have pictures to share, please forward them for future publication.
Rotarians at Work
In the past week, Lake Chelan Rotary Club members went to work building a sidewalk around the Chelan Senior Center and assisting a homeowner in Manson.  Once word was out that the cement could be delivered on July 10, President Ty Witt assembled a team at the Senior Center which included Lester Cooper, Ron Hart, Concie Luna, Karen Feek, John Ausnes, and Brian Patterson (as well as Rotarian spouses Robert Takagi and John Pembroke). When that job was finished, Brian, John Ausnes, Lester, Ron, Concie and Karen then joined Lee Parker and Mary Pat Scofield for the second job. In all, 4.2 cubic yards of concrete went into making 50 feet of sidewalk at the Senior Center and a 12x10 ft pad at the Manson home. Thanks to all who made this happen on a very warm summer day.
Club Announcements
New Project Funds: 2018-2019 District 5060 Governor Sherry Chamberlain has announced that $500 is available to all clubs in our District to help initiate projects in our immediate communities. We must match this with our own $500 contribution. Do you have an idea for a new project? Submit a short request with a description and a photo to Ty Witt for consideration.

2018-2019 Rotary Club Dues
Invoices for Rotary club dues were recently sent via email. There are changes for the 2018-2019 Rotary year which are reflected your invoice. Dues will now be $275 + a Rotary Foundation contribution of $75 (which is optional) for a total of $350. The previous year, dues were $225 + an optional Rotary Foundation contribution of $75, for a total of $300. Going forward, the increased dues are in lieu of the "mandatory" $2 collection each week at lunch meetings during Happy Bucks time. If members wish to speak at a meeting they will be asked to make a contribution.  If you haven't received your invoice, please notify Linda O'Brien at LaPorte Financial as soon as possible. She can be reached at 509-682-2521 or [email protected].

Views of the Lake

This week's View of Domke Falls was taken on July 29. Located approximately ten miles south of Stehekin on the western shore of Lake Chelan, the campground at Domke Falls Campground has four tent sites with fire rings, picnic tables, and a floating dock with a six boat capacity.

Domke Falls, Mountain and Lake are named after Henry Domke, one of the first settlers who attempted to secure a livelihood from resources of the up lake regions. Domke is reputed to have tried to harness the power of Domke Falls for a sawmill. The sawmill never produced any lumber- some say the saw ran backwards. Others say that the equipment was smashed by the power of the falls.
