August 2026

Dear Lake County Community,

I hope you had the opportunity to enjoy some time this summer—whether that meant relaxing, spending time with family and friends, traveling, or simply taking a well-deserved break.

As a new school year begins, I want to extend a warm welcome to all of our educators, school staff, and families across Lake County. The start of the school year is always a time of optimism—a chance to reconnect, embrace new opportunities, and look ahead to all that can be accomplished together.

Every successful school year is built on strong partnerships between schools and families. Your support, dedication, and commitment create the foundation for students to learn, grow, and thrive, and we are grateful for everything you do.

At the Lake County Regional Office of Education, we look forward to continuing our work alongside our districts and communities by providing resources, professional learning, and programs that support both educators and students throughout the year.

Thank you for all you do to inspire, encourage, and support the young people of Lake County. I wish you and your families a wonderful start to the school year and continued success in the months ahead.

Sincerely,

Dr. Michael Karner

Regional Superintendent of Schools

The university’s Dual Credit Learning Accelerator is partnering with IVSA to pilot three Illinois Dual Credit courses during the 2026–2027 school year. Through this initiative, students can earn both high school and college credit simultaneously.

The pilot includes three popular 100-level general education courses from the University of Illinois:

● ASTR 150: Killer Skies: Astro Disasters

● SPED 117: The Culture of Disability

● MACS 100: Introduction to Popular TV & Movies

You can view the full course menu with course descriptions on the Learning Accelerator website.

To express interest, please reach out to IVSA, as we may have a few seats still available for our Full-Time Academy students.
