Greetings Lake Deaton Family,
After the events of this past week and as we approach the inauguration this coming week, I have found myself in much prayer. I truly believe we are in a time that is not going to be overcome with politics or power, but with a concentrated effort by people of good faith to come together working towards understanding and transparency with each other.
To do this, though, I realize that I need to start with myself. I need to admit that I have hurts, habits and hang-ups that keep me from freely going to my sisters and brothers in a position of love, to listen to your stories and hear your struggles.
So, my prayer is leading me to surrender. To return to the Cross of Jesus and lay my life at that Cross. To acknowledge that my hope, our hope, is not in a political party, is not in a politician, is not in a movement, but is in the person of Jesus Christ, God in the flesh, died and resurrected for my sin and yours.
In this time of turmoil, I invite you to join with me in prayer and repentance as we seek the surrendered life of discipleship. In that, I am convinced is our hope for a better future.
Blessings,

Disinfectant Fogger
Thank you, Leo & Facilities Team, for keeping our church building safe and clean for us to visit and worship in! An extra special thank you to them AND our Trustees who have researched and found even more ways! They have purchased a hospital-grade disinfectant fogger that not only kills the virus that causes CoVid-19 (and other viruses and bacteria), but it is mild, fragrance-free, and an allergen eliminator.

Get to Know: Jan Betz,
Our Membership Secretary
Jan Betz is Lake Deaton UMC Membership Secretary. She keeps busy with the process of recording and maintaining accurate records of membership.
Jan was active in Choir, Bell Ringers and now looks forward to the Flutter By Garden ministry to get started! This ministry desires to plant beautiful plants to entice the monarch butterfly population. This will also create a peaceful garden on our church property; an oasis to pray, meditate and enjoy God’s creation.
Jan’s hobbies include golf, dancing, knitting, reading and butterfly gardening.
Rick, her husband has eight grandchildren in Maryland, Delaware, New Orleans and Indiana. They joined New Covenant at the Lake Deaton campus in March of 2019. We are glad they did!

We believe that meeting the physical, spiritual and emotional needs of our church and neighbors is what showing the love of Christ is all about. If you are facing a challenge, have a prayer request, or want to serve as a volunteer, please let us know. In case of a death of a loved one or a hospitalization, let us know so a Care Minister can support you through this time.
For Prayer and Care Ministries needs, please email Denise Herzberg by clicking here.
We are now able to visit congregants in the hospital! Please let us know by calling the Care Department when you, a relative or a friend is in the hospital. We will schedule a visit from one of our pastoral team.

Grieving with Hope - Pastor Ralph Donohue
We all have experienced a perpetual state of grief since March of 2020. We have grieved for the loss of 370,000 Americans, some of whom we knew personally, but have been unable to properly remember them or others who have died in this period. We miss being able to visit loved ones and miss real time school, work and worship.
Let us come together in real time, with masks to lift each other other in a grief support group starting Thursday Jan. 21 at 11:00 a.m. For the first of a ten- week course to help us turn our grief into hope and joy. Pastor Ralph who has helped many people in his ministry deal with grief, will lead us through what should be a much needed course in spiritual healing and recovery. Click here to sign up.
