A Message from Pastor Kristyne
Some of you may recall that about two years ago I took a trip to Hawaii to be in a friend's wedding. I had a wonderful week in Hawaii with my mom and girls and at the end of the week I stood with one of my closest friends as she married a wonderful man. It was great. However, the really great thing about that week was seeing my friend, Heather, in person, you see I had not seen her in at least 12 years.

Our story starts our when my girls were toddlers. Heather was the associate pastor at our church. When the power was out at our house for an extended period she graciously opened her home to us, even though she hardly knew us. Our friendship grew. We were the same age and just clicked. After a time, Heather moved to another part of Florida but we kept in touch. I often took the girls to see her on mini vacations. Then Heather was called to a church in the mid-west. Vacations to see Heather were no longer quite as easy, but we worked them in. We were determined for our friendship to continue to grow. This meant we were always on the phone with each other. Sometimes she would call me and sometimes I would call her. Then Heather moved out west and vacations to see Heather stopped all together. That was just too far. However, we knew our friendship was important, and because of that, it continued to grow. Even though we didn’t see each other, we became deeper friends. Then came the news that she was taking a church in Hawaii. I thought for sure I would never see Heather again, but I knew we would continue to grow as friends, because we were committed to growing in our relationship.

Well, you all know the end of the story. I did end up seeing Heather again. Today I can’t say if I will ever see Heather in person again, but I know for the rest of our lives we will be close friends and will continue to grow. Why do I tell this story? I tell this because this is a lot like Intentional Faith Formation. To get to know God you have to be committed to growing in your relationship. You have to be ready to “make those phone calls”. You have to be ready to learn about God. You have to be ready to grow. You have to be open to God getting to know you. I hope you join me this weekend as we look deeply at just what it means to be intentional about our faith formation. See you on Saturday or Sunday!
