Important Freeholder Update

We have been receiving Freeholder card updates in the mail. Thank you! I am pleased with participation to this point with about 32% of freeholders responding.

I have received emails from several people who did not receive a card in the mail. There have been many cards unable to be delivered due to mailing address changes. This is precisely one reason we are updating our database.

If you did not receive a card in the mail, please click the button below to complete the form online.

If you have not yet mailed your completed card back, please do that ASAP (or simply complete the online form below). Again, thank you for your participation as we are working hard to get our Freeholder database completely up-to-date so we have the best contact information on file for all Freeholders.

Dredging Update

August 2022 Hydraulic Dredging Update

Your Lake Manager recently posted a very informative hydraulic dredging video update on the LLCD YouTube Channel. This video provides an excellent overview of the project and will help you understand exactly what is happening in this very important, large-scale project.

We highly suggest you take some time to watch this first dredging video, with more video updates to come soon. Click the video above to watch.

2022 Park Closing

We aren't closed yet, but will be closing up for the season soon. Riddle Point Park's last day open will be Labor Day, Monday September 5th.

Come soak up some end of the season sun at the beach. While you are here, the kids can enjoy our new playground, adults can choose one of our seven brand new grills to whip up a meal, see how many volleys in a row you can get on the sand volleyball court, enjoy our brand new picnic tables, fish on our expansive shoreline, have a hike on our hiking trail... there really is so much to do here at beautiful Riddle Point Park. It's been a really great season. Thank you.

Winter Boat Storage

This winter we are happy to provide secure outdoor boat storage. This will be strictly drop-off storage with no winterization.

The fee per boat is only $200. If you would like to learn more, please complete the short questionnaire by clicking the button below.

Lake Manager's Corner

What a year it has been! This time last August we were waiting on earthwork to start at the South Shore disposal basin, staff were jumping on the “great resignation” train, and it still seemed like a distant hope for the hydraulic dredging project to get underway. With our new staff additions this year (Jessica Healey in January and Ross Carlson in April) the LLCD office is running like a fine-tuned machine and there is a sense of rejuvenation in the air.

Lake Lemon and Riddle Point Park are in the best shape I have seen in a long time. A few critical updates:

  • After many years of planning, the hydraulic dredging project is finally in full swing
  • Having contracted out dredging has really allowed staff to focus on the services that need to be paramount during the recreation season
  • Lake buoys have been in great shape and locations
  • Lake Patrol has substantially stepped up
  • Vegetation monitoring has been a regular occurrence

Ross has implemented many improvements at Riddle Point including a shelter house renovation, seven new grills (you can find a map of them HERE), many new picnic tables, and a level of cleanliness that cannot be rivaled in past years. In the office, Jessica has gotten our Freeholder database in fine shape, is pumping out awesome monthly newsletters, and through her diligent efforts she has increased sublease revenue this year by close to 30%.

As we start to wind down the season, make sure to keep safe boating at the forefront of your minds and enjoy the cooler weather while cruising the lake.

As always, it is a pleasure to serve the Lake Lemon Conservancy District and I look forward to the years to come.

Regards,

Adam Casey

Fall Shelter House Rentals

Our recently renovated shelter house has pretty open availability this fall. We'd love to host your gathering!

There are 6 new 8 ft picnic tables and 10 total, as well as a new state of the art charcoal grill unlike any I have ever seen at a public park. There are three bays allowing you to have items on the grill at different temperatures. And the size...it's massive!

The shelter house has electricity and water. The view of the lake is impeccable. It really is a memorable way to host your gathering.

To inquire about availability, please send us an email. You can see the shelter house agreement HERE. If you are planning a wedding there is no more affordable and gorgeous way than at the lake. You can see the special events agreement HERE.

August Board Meeting

The regularly scheduled August 25th Lake Lemon Conservancy District Board of Director's meeting has been postponed and rescheduled to take place on Thursday, September 1st, 2022, at 6:00 pm.

The meeting will still take place at the City of Bloomington Utilities Building. Located at 600 E. Miller Dr., Bloomington, IN.

We hope you can make it. This will be the final discussion of the 2023 budget.

If you can't make it, as always, you can view past Board meeting information HERE.

What’s the Mystery Behind the Snail??

You’ve seen them on the rocks and caught them on your line, so what is the deal with the large snails in Lake Lemon? What are they? Where did they come from? How did they get here?

While some of the details remain a mystery, the Chinese Mystery Snail (Cipangopaludina chinensis) is an aquatic invasive species that is here to stay. They are called Mystery Snails due to the fact that the females give birth to fully developed snails that “mysteriously” appear. While they can be a nuisance for bare feet on the beach, they are considered a delicacy by many and are the target catch of many Riddle Point Park users. The more you know!
