Independence Day Success!

WOW...what a show! We hope you enjoyed the fireworks this year as much as we did. We had the largest spectator turnout *ever* in the park. While mailed donations were down quite a lot this year, by charging $20 entry per vehicle we were able to cover the cost of the show. We also invited three food trucks into the park, which also all had great success. It warms our hearts to see how many people came out to enjoy our beautiful lake.

Lake resident and award winning photographer Bruce McLaren has graciously shared his personal photos of the show. If you'd like to view them you can do that HERE. Thanks for sharing your gorgeous photos, Bruce!

Wake Boat Concerns

In our May newsletter Lake Manager Adam wrote a detailed piece about best practices for operating wake boats. Unfortunately we have had multiple complaints this summer about unsafe and dangerous practices involving wake boats. We have heard that some wake boats are coming dangerously close to land, docks, boats, and even humans in the water. We've also had complaints that some wake boats have been operating during dusk and even dark. None of this is okay. Please, slow down, be aware, remain in the center of the lake, and be respectful to all humans on the lake and to the lake itself.

Please, click below to review the Manager's Corner in the May newsletter for wake boating best practices. Lake Patrol and conservation officers are patrolling and keeping their eyes peeled for any unsafe boating. You don't want this to be you!

Also, if you see something, please say something! You can call the office or email us. Together we can all keep our lake both safe and beautiful.

Lake Area Residents - Important!

We are working on a post card which will be mailed out to every household that is a part of the Conservancy District. We would like to make sure our databases are up-to-date.

Please keep your eyes peeled in the next week or so for a postage return paid post card. We need you to take a couple of minutes and complete the short post card and mail back to us.

If you have any questions, or wish to add any additional information that wasn't asked on the post card, you can always email us. Click the button below to email.

What is that thing floating in the lake!??

Throughout summer you may come across a ball of jelly-like substance and ask yourself what kind of alien life you have just come across.

While commonly mistaken for the eggs of our many lake inhabitants, what you have found is actually a freshwater Bryozoan! The photo above is a Bryozoan found on a lake buoy this summer.

Each colony contains hundreds of thousands of filter feeding animals called a Zooid. While acting as a food source for fish and insects, Bryozoans also help the clean the water as they consume microorganisms and their presence typically indicates good water quality. The more that you know!

Lake Manager's Corner

As we enter the heat of summer, I would like to remind everyone to stay hydrated and safe out there. The sun this summer is blistering hot and drinking plenty of non-alcoholic fluids needs to be a critical component of your safe boating plan.

It is also necessary to remind everyone on safe wake boat operation. We have been receiving more complaints and tips than ever regarding wake boats running at dusk, near swim areas, and near anchored boats. The more this becomes an issue, the more we will regulate it. For everyone’s safety and your enjoyment of that new boat, please be courteous and use common sense. Make sure to only drive utilizing ballast tanks in the middle of the lake and to not run in “wake” mode near shorelines, when you are not towing, and once the sun starts going down.

DNR Conservation Officers and LLCD Lake Patrol have been very active this year. Citations and warnings have been issued for underage operation of jet skis, not having spotters, exceeding occupant capacity on boats, and for driving with open containers.

As a final reminder, any dock modifications, installations, or work near shorelines needs to be permitted (see shoreline permit HERE and dock guidelines HERE). We have begun stopping every dock and lift company at the gatehouse to make sure the proper permits have been issued prior to starting any work.

Thank you,

Adam Casey, District Manager
