Hydraulic Dredging Update

Hydraulic dredging is in full swing and progress is being made in the East Bay of Lake Lemon. Thank you for heeding hazard warnings and staying out of the dredging area. The dredge runs along a cable system which is very difficult to see from afar.

The particular hydraulic dredge being used is capable of moving over 1,000 cubic yards of material in a single day, or the equivalent of 10 large barge loads of sediment; a true testament to the speed and efficiency of hydraulic dredging!

The embedded video shows what material looks like when it enters the settling basin. The water sediment slurry being pumped into the basin is approximately 20% material and 80% water. As the basin fills up, a chemical flocculant, like what is used in wastewater treatment plants, will be added to the mixture to help material combine into large particles and settle faster.

Now, more than ever, we need your support! To maximize this 2022 project, and to build an endowment for future projects, we need to raise funds. Please consider making a tax-deductible donation to the Lake Lemon Enhancement Fund below.

Annual Boat Passes

Now that the recreation season is in full swing, please make sure to purchase your annual boat pass from the Riddle Point Park Gatehouse or the Lake Lemon Marina.

Since there has now been ample time to purchase passes, please be aware that Lake Patrol has been hitting the water frequently and is enforcing permit regulations.

Boating Permits & Costs

Shoreline Modification & Dock Permits

Any project along the lake shoreline &/or on the City of Bloomington property must have a valid permit. This includes but is not limited to: dock installations, sea walls, rip-rap applications, decks and piers, etc.

Docks must be non-permanent structure types and be removable without the need for construction equipment.

If you would like to place, replace, or repair any structure along the shoreline, including docks, you must contact the LLCD first. Enforcement for unpermitted structures will include the removal of the structure and potential revocation of sublease privileges.

Lake Manager's Corner

While it seemed like winter and the rainy spring were never going to end, we have finally made it to summer and the recreation season is upon us. While enjoying time on the water, please make sure to follow proper boating safety guidelines including having spotters present for towing activities such as tubing and water skiing. If you need to brush up on your knowledge, check out the DNR BOATING SAFETY website.

This summer you will see the Lake Patrol jet ski out and about far more frequently (see images above). It is clearly marked as Lake Patrol and has new lights so you will not mistake it. Lake patrol is primarily focused on boater safety and enforcement of Lake Lemon's boating rules and regulations. For the safety of everyone, areas for anchoring and swimming are limited to the dam bay, the short causeway bay, and Riddle Point Park beach area.

I hope everyone has a safe and fun summer and I look forward to seeing you on the water! As always, it is a pleasure serving the LLCD.
