Among other items, this agenda includes:

Public Hearing for 2023 Property Tax Levy

The Village is holding a Public Hearing Monday night for residents to have the opportunity to comment on the proposed levy. The total proposed increase to the property tax levy for 2023 represents an 8.45% increase over the previous year when applying the formulas set forth in the Property Tax Extension Limitation Law. The total proposed levy is just under $11 million, including approximately $5 million for police and fire pensions and $1.3 million for debt service.

Chipotle Mexican Grill Development

Terraco Incorporated is requesting approval to construct a Chipotle restaurant with drive-through and outdoor patio at 442 South Rand Road. Until recently, a significant portion of the existing three-story office building was leased to Chase Bank, which has since constructed a new bank across the road.

Collective Bargaining Agreements

The Village has been in productive negotiations regarding successor contracts with both the Fraternal Order of Police, Patrol Unit and the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 150. Members of FOP and Local 150 have accepted new three-year contracts.

2024 Budget Workshop

Mayor Poynton and Village Trustees will meet as a "Committee of the Whole" for a non-voting 2024 budget workshop on Saturday November 18, 2023, starting at 9 am at the Police Department Community Center.

Residents are encouraged to attend the budget workshop to ask questions and learn more about municipal financing and local government operations.

Lake Michigan Water Project

In October 2020, the Village contracted with Engineering Enterprises for a comprehensive study to consider the long-term viability of the deep well system currently in place and identifying potential partners along with alternative Lake Michigan water supplies that were not considered previously. Subsequent meetings, workshops and studies were posted on the Village website and on social media.

Many questions have been asked and answered based on the facts available at that time. There have also been opinions and assertions that have little or no basis in fact.

We’ve assembled some of them that deal with Lake Michigan Water quality and asked CLCJAWA (the Central Lake County Joint Action Water Agency) to respond. Below is a link to their response.

Lake Michigan Water -  Facts

This is a complex topic and we recommend residents to review the timeline and information presented on the village website.
