The first two weeks of 2017-2018 certainly finished at a very fast pace! The students have now settled into their daily schedules and are familiar with LNHS procedures and the OCPS code of conduct. As a reminder, next week will be a short school week due to the Labor Day holiday on Monday.
Here on this Monday morning I would also like to thank the students, teachers, and staff for what was truly a wonderful fall sports pep rally last Friday. We have included a few images in this week's update for the community that I think help to capture the spirit of the event. Well done Lions . . . our fall sports programs are now officially underway!
Make it a great week!
Warm regards,
Martha C. Chang

Technology in the Classroom
AP Computer Science Principles
During a district-wide PLC,
Mrs. Hines, our AP Computer Science Principles teacher, discovered that Lake Nona's AP Computer Science Principles scores were
well above the district averages.
* Chart illustrates the percentage of AP Computer Science Principles students scoring at each level by group: Global, OCPS and Lake Nona HS on a 1 to 5 scale (higher more favorable).
Our students not only out performed their Orange County peers, they also scored, on average, better than the 47,000 students globally who took the exam!
Our students also got fewer 1's and 2's, and significantly more 3's, 4's and 5's.
In fact, our students accounted for 20% of the highest scores in our district (4's and 5's).

Important Message for LNHS Parents
|
New safety procedure language
Parents, please be advised that this school year, your schools, principals and the news media will be using new language for safety procedures at school. Here's an explanation:
Padres, por favor tengan en cuenta que en este año escolar, sus escuelas, principales y los medios noticiosos, estarán utilizando un "idioma diferente" cuando se habla de los procedimientos de seguridad en las escuelas. Aquí tenemos una explicación de cada uno de los procedimientos de seguridad:

Monday's Motivational Moment
|
A poor, hungry young man sat moping on a bridge, watching a group of fisherman. Looking into a basket and seeing a bunch of fish nearby, the young man said, "Boy, if I had a mess of fish like that, I'd be in good shape. I'd sell them and buy some clothes and something to eat."
"I'll give you that many fish if you do a small favor for me," a fisherman replied.
"Sure."
"Tend this line for me awhile. I've got some errands to do up the street," said the older man.
The young man gladly accepted the offer. As he tended the man's pole, the fish were really biting, and he reeled in one fish after another. It wasn't long before he was smiling, enjoying the activity.
When the older man returned, he said, "I want to give you the fish I promised. Here, take all the fish you caught. But I also want to give you a piece of advice. The next time you're in need, don't waste time daydreaming and wishing for what could be. Get busy, cast the line yourself, and make something happen."
Have a terrific week Lions!
