Aspire to Excellence
Lake Nona High School is proud to celebrate the launch of Aspire to Excellence!  This is an exciting new initiative to help high performing students gain acceptance to the top tier colleges and universities in the nation.  On Tuesday, October 24th, nine 10th grade students were accepted into Lake Nona's first Aspire to Excellence cohort.  The students and their parents were all enthusiastic and excited as the goals and objectives of the initiative were presented.  Ms. Tiana Reyes will be leading the Aspire students through the weekly modules that will assist them in making their dreams a reality!

PRIDE.

While this is only my second quarter as your new principal of LNHS, when looking over this issue that one word jumps to mind. Even if you only give this week's edition a quick glance, it certainly illustrates the many impressive events occurring on campus ranging from student academic excellence and new athletic records to community support and individual teacher achievement. The students, teachers, and staff  have built up some powerful momentum turning into November and what will soon be the holiday season. I challenge our Lions to keep up their daily efforts being mindful of daily attendance working to maximize all available in-class instructional time.

If you are opening this on Sunday afternoon, enjoy the rest of your weekend and have a great week. Thank you for your continued support.

GO LIONS!

Sincerely,

Martha C. Chang
Principal

Hope A. Marcus and Ms. Gonzalez

Community footnote: While somewhat difficult to see in the background above, Ms.Gonzalez uses a "Common Board Configuration" or "CBC" with her Spanish 1 and Spanish 2 students. When they walk in the classroom she has clearly marked on the whiteboard key items for the day such as: bellwork, lesson objectives, activities, and assessments. As a result, the students know exactly what to expect during the class hour. These images were taken on October 24th.

Physics Teacher Recognized

Mrs. Richards (left) and Ms. Wongshue

Mrs. Richards, Physics teacher, was awarded $2,13.000 from Ms. Wongshue, a representative for The Foundation for Orange County Public Schools. The Math, Science, Energy Education Impact  Grant is sponsored by Duke Energy. The award will be used to fund her project, "I'm "Board . . . Using Whiteboard Manipulatives to Increase Physics Understanding." The manipulatives purchased will help students model both Mechanics and Optics problems in her Regular, Honors, and AP classes.
