This is our last school week before we release student progress reports for the 4th quarter. All of our Knights should turn in any missing assignments or projects as soon as possible.
This week our PTSA has two LNMS spirit events planned at local businesses that support our school: 1) Panda Express on Tuesday (all day) and 2) Jeremiah's Italian Ice on Thursday (3-9 PM). If you are out and about on either day, please consider dropping by one of these school partners as they will donate a percentage of all receipts where LNMS is mentioned at the time of purchase back to our wonderful PTSA. Your support is greatly appreciated.
I think you will enjoy this issue as we have included some impressive student and staff success stories. Enjoy your week and please remember, this is School Spirit Week!
With Knight Pride,
Stephanie R. Jackson, M. Ed.
Principal
Lake Nona Middle School
The last track meet of the regular season will be at home Wednesday, May 1st versus Innovation Middle School and Renaissance Charter HC. Both LNMS track & field teams are currently undefeated!

We had a great turnout for our very first Reel Knights Fishing Club meeting last Thursday. Our students learned the importance of safety around the water and each other while practicing their casting and retrieving skills and techniques. For some, this was their first time handling a fishing pole.

FREE Construction Career Camp for 8th Grade Girls
|
We have good news for your current 8th grade female students. The Greater Orlando Chapter of the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) is sponsoring a FREE Construction Career Camp (CCC) for Girls. This camp lasts for one week during the summer and provides a supportive and nurturing environment for high school girls to explore and develop basic skills in the areas of carpentry, electrical and HVAC/ plumbing - free of charge. Our goal for this year is for one hundred girls to attend this camp.
Camp Benefits:
* Offers high school girls a gender-neutral environment to learn and practice new skills without fear of being teased or isolated.
* Develops greater self-confidence and self-esteem for girls who tackle and successfully complete challenging projects.
* Develops a safety-first attitude and "we can do it" mindset via the safety and history of women in construction seminars on the opening day of summer camp.
* Introduces high school girls to women role models who have achieved success in all areas of construction to include tradeswomen, engineers, architects, accountants, project superintendents and business owners. The girls learn that there are opportunities in the construction industry for their dreams.
* Introduces students to valuable college and tradeswomen scholarship information.
This year's camp runs from June 3rd through June 7th and will be held at Orange Technical College - Westside Campus, 955 E Story Rd, Winter Garden, FL 34787. Orange Technical College will provide bus transportation from two locations via OCPS Transportation Services. Those two locations are Orange Technical College - Avalon Campus and Orange Technical College - Mid Florida Campus. The departure time from both locations is 7:45 am. and students will return to their pickup location at approximately 4:00 p.m. If a student does not choose to use the provided bus service, they must provide their own transportation to Orange Technical College - Westside Campus, 955 E. Story Road, Winter Garden, FL, 34787.

Both track teams remain undefeated as they look to claim the Division! All of our throwers, jumpers, and runners continue to exceed expectations meet after meet. Coaches continue to closely monitor and track our athletes progress making sure our athletes are always accomplishing and setting goals. To no surprise, they continue to obtain these goals and succeed in beating their personal records daily. Not only are our athletes competing against their opponents, they understand they are also competing for their personal best every time they perform. This is why if you see our track athletes in competition, it is not rare to see them win a race by a fairly large margin as they have their eyes set on the bigger prize.
Keep up the hard work Knights!
School records continue to be made! Newcomer and standout student-athlete, 6th grader
Zikora Anyiwo, broke the 800m school record with a 2:38.49 during her first meet and came close to breaking it again this last Wednesday. Eighth grader and two time Lake Nona Middle School Girls MVP,
Anaya Brown, broke the 200m record for the 3rd time in school history. This time she ran it in 25.08 during our home meet versus Freedom and Walker beating her previous record by almost an entire second.
The last meet of the regular season will be at home Wednesday, May 1st versus Innovation Middle School and Renaissance Charter HC. Best of luck to our track teams and coaches as they strive to win another Division Championship. Please come out and support your Knights!
