"Writes of Spring" - What does it mean to be a good neighbor?
Orlando Repertory Theatre and the graduate students of the University of Central Florida's Theatre for Young Audiences MFA program work in partnership to present
Writes of Spring, an annual writing and creativity contest dedicated to celebrating the works of youth in Central Florida. The project strives to support literacy, critical thinking, and creative expression by transforming the words of young people into a fully produced show.
This year's prompt invited students to ask the question, "What does it mean to be a good neighbor?" With entries from 884 students across Central Florida the selection process was vigorous. Seventy of the students' writings were chosen for the final production.
Out of those 70, 11 students were from Lake Nona Middle School!
Student winners:
- Alexandra Drauer- 6th grade
- Rosemarie Menard - 6th grade
- Angelica Rivera - 7th grade
- Cassidy Chafin - 7th grade
- Grace Marshall - 7th grade

- Valeria Martinez - 7th grade
- Gianna Santiago - 8th grade
- Isabella Boilini - 8th grade
- Kylanis Colon - 8th grade
- Rhea Jacob - 8th grade
The play was called
Neighborhood Watch. The story line was about how all of the animals in the neighborhood went missing and a group of kids in the neighborhood set out to solve the mystery. The Orlando Rep had therapy dogs in the lobby for everyone to pet before and after the show!
