This Tuesday we officially get the 2017 Florida Standards Assessments underway as our 6th and 7th grade Knights will sit for the writing component. If you are a parent/guardian of a 6th or 7th grade student, please make sure they get a quality night's rest Monday evening and they start Tuesday off with a good breakfast. We want our Knights to have every possible advantage they deserve on this year's exams.

If you missed it last week, please note that we have posted some important information on  2017 Spring Exams. There are a number of key items to be aware of before we begin this year's exams such as the length of each test, FLDOE/OCPS policies regarding test validation, etc. Kindly take a moment to look over this short notification letter with your student before they take their first exam. Thank you.

As a final reminder, this Wednesday, March 1 will be regular school day - no early release due to county-wide SAT exams. Please plan accordingly.

Thank you for looking over this current issue and best wishes for a successful week. As for our 6th and 7th grade Knights, I am certain they will perform quite well on their writing assessment Tuesday as our students and their teachers have worked very hard in preparation towards this point in the school year.

In Knight Pride,

Stephanie R. Jackson, M. Ed.
Principal, Lake Nona Middle School

Knightly News
Civics

Recently, the "news" has been in the news. Our Civics teachers have been working hard to teach students the basics of the media and its influence on the political process.

Most of the time, the media will make its content to make money or to show their opinions. Even back in the old days, Thomas Jefferson once said: "Nothing can be believed which is seen in a newspaper. Truth itself becomes suspicious by being put into that polluted vehicle."

Ask your kids about news credibility . . . what do they think?

Knight Club
Math Club

LNMS Math Club finished 12th of 36 competing schools in Central Florida. Bravo Knights!
On February 18, 2017  at our math competition, our school did extraordinary. Lake Nona Middle School placed 12th out of 36 different schools in the Central Florida area. This is one of the highest places our school has ever accomplished. Our school was represented by:

HaeJean Kwun, Heesu Seo, Kevin Wagner, Estefania Rodriguez Da Silva, Lillian Nguyen, Darren Bansil, Amiel Bagay, Elizabeth Bias, Joshua Spencer, Isabella Garcia, and Bhargav Vyas. Haejean Kwun, Heesu Seo, Estefania Rodriguez Da Silva, Elizabeth Bias, and Darren Bansil

Each student scored individually in the top 100 out of every student that competed. Approximately 300 students competed in the competition. Haejean was the top scorer for the school placing 39th overall.

I am extremely proud of this group of students, they represented Lake Nona very well at the competition.
