Programs and Initiatives

Cover Crops

Cover crops can boost your profits and prevent soil erosion. You’ll notice improved soil health within the first year of planting! Cover crops improve soil health by improving infiltration of excess surface water, relieving compaction of over tilled soil and adding organic matter to encourage beneficial soil microbial life. This improved soil health will increase your crop yields, with the added benefit of reduced soil erosion in the winter months.

Grassland Restoration

It’s estimated that 99% of grasslands (including meadows) have been cleared from landscapes in southern Ontario. The four hectare patch we’ve restored at Rogers Reservoir, for example, will help increase this previously threatened habitat.

Do you own two or more acres of land in the Lake Simcoe watershed? Build your own meadow, right on your own land! We can provide advice, expertise, and up to $10,000 in funding! There’s never been a better time to retire that hayfield or reduce your mowing.
