Your Buzzworthy News and Updates
Summer vacations are now long behind us. Many of us have returned to work. Kids have returned to school. And the daylight hours are getting shorter and shorter. But don't despair. The month ahead is a perfect time to check out our conservation areas and to take in the stunning fall colours!

Our trails and forests also provide a great opportunity for a brisk walk or hike with family and friends. And the spectacular tree cover and falling leaves provide a great opportunity for amateur and professional shutterbugs alike.

With this in mind, we invite you to read on to see what's happening around Lake Simcoe in our September newsletter.

National Day of Truth and Reconciliation
On Saturday, September 30th, we unite to honour National Day of Truth and Reconciliation.

This day is a reminder for us to recognize the painful truths of our nation's history and the enduring strength of Indigenous communities. Today and everyday: Let's plant the seeds of understanding and empathy. Let's educate ourselves about Indigenous cultures and histories.

Let's engage in open dialogue and listen to the voices of Indigenous peoples. It's a time to reflect, learn, and act towards healing and reconciliation.

Mussel Work!
Our monitoring staff put lot of 'muscle' into Lake Simcoe mussel sampling!

The crew, pictured here on the Lake Simcoe Research vessel Hexagenia, just completed the last of the sampling sites for the big lake-wide mussel survey.

Our team travelled the distance equal to travelling from Lake Simcoe to Newfoundland! They went out for 37 boat rides and completed sampling at 715 sites.

The total vertical depth they sampled was 11 km underwater – that’s like taking a sample from Mariana’s Trench.

The results of this project will feed into valuable data that we collect in efforts to monitor the Lake which in turn informs our work in climate change mitigation and adaptation.

You can find out more about invasive mussels on our website.

Upcoming Scanlon Creek Conservation Area Trail Closures
In mid to late October, we will begin working on several trail rehabilitation and naturalization projects at Scanlon Creek Conservation Area.
