It's officially the wettest year on record in the Northern California mountains, National Weather Service officials said recently.
In January alone 237 inches of snow fell at 7,000 feet in Lake Tahoe. That beats the previous record, set in 1973 which saw 159 inches of snow in January.
As of mid April, Kirkwood Mountain had a season total of 685 inches, Sierra-at-Tahoe's total is 612 inches and Heavenly Ski Resort is reporting 659 inches for their season total.
All three resorts have experienced the snowiest winter on record.
All this precipitation doesn't only mean an amazing ski season. We will be seeing a verdant summer (think of all the wildflowers!) and with the lake above it's natural rim for the first time in years, the boating season will be plentiful. Lake Tahoe will surly be a vacation destination must.
