Lake Zurich Doubles Investment in Suburban Forest Canopy
For 2022, the Village of Lake Zurich doubled its annual investment in neighborhood tree plantings to $100,000 to increase our local tree canopy.

Planting an additional 456 parkway trees this year brings the community a giant step closer to our goal of replacing the 3,000+ trees that were lost to the devastation created by the invasive emerald ash borer beetle.

The 2022 plantings will occur in two parts, half in spring and half in autumn.

Neighborhoods selected to receive new parkway trees this year include Ancient Oaks, Braemar, Bristol Trail, Hunters Creek, Industrial Park, Mohawk Point and Wicklow.

Spring plantings are expected to begin by the end of May and fall plantings by the end of October.

Tree species selection is completed with a preference for species native to northern Illinois and those that enhance the diversity of the overall tree population.

Selection of all trees is completed with the Village’s full-time ISA certified Arborist, volunteer resident Tree Commission, and the Director of Public Works.
Yard Waste & Compost
Collection Underway
Weekly yard waste and curbside composting collection in Lake Zurich is now underway until mid-December. Collection occurs on the same day as your normal refuse/recycling collection.

Prairieland Disposal / LRS will provide curbside compost collection of all food scraps and yard waste — both go into the same bin.

If you already participate in yard waste collection, you can now add all your food scraps to the same bin.

An optional 3rd cart for yard waste / food scraps is available from Prairieland Disposal / LRS for $5 a month. Call them at 847-381-9300 or send them an online message.
Hydrant Flushing Has Begun
Hydrants are flushed once a year to flush out accumulated sediments, assure that the hydrants are in proper working order, and ensure water quality.

Although the temporary discoloration in your tap water is not harmful, we recommend that you DO NOT wash clothes the day before, the day of, and the day after hydrant flushing for your area since discoloration can occur outside of the scheduled flushing area.

If your clothing should become stained, the Village offers rust-removing detergent, which must be used before the clothes are dried. This free detergent can be obtained at the Village Hall, 70 E. Main Street.
Main Street Gallery Opening
