July 2019

Happy 4th of July!

And ye shall hallow the fiftieth year, and proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof: it shall; be a jubilee unto you, and ye shall return every man unto his possession, and ye shall return every man unto his family.
Leviticus 25:10

You may recall seeing this picture in the last edition of the LOTI Link. It is a picture taken near the Minnesota State Capital on Memorial Day. Governor Walz and I were blessing and ringing for the first time a replica of the Liberty Bell that was presented to the State of Minnesota in the early 1950's by the Paccard Bell Company. This is the very same bell foundry in France that produced our bell at the Lake of the Isles. This is the introduction that I offered...

In 1751, the city of Philadelphia commissioned bell to be cast on
the 50th anniversary of the William Penn's Charter of Privileges
for the residents of his colony. Penn envisioned a colony that
permitted religious freedom, the consent and participation of the governed, as well as other laws pertaining to property rights.
A portion of the  scripture from Leviticus was to be engraved
onto the bell.

The passage itself was written as the description of the year of jubilee when debts were to be forgiven, and indentured servants were to be set free. Fifty years later, the words on the bell, And proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereofThe Liberty Bell, and its inscription, would be adopted as the symbol of the abolitionist movement across the northern states.
At the end of my blessing. Governor Walz pulled the rope on the clapper, and shouted out, Let freedom ring!  It was a solemn, joyful and reflective moment.

Happy Fourth of July!  Pastor Arden Haug

On July 10 from 7:00pm to 8:30pm the group will meet in the library to discuss Chapter 9 The Best Kept Secret fr om  Finding Joy When Life is Out of Focus: a Study for Joy-Thirsty Women by Angela Donadio.
We all walk through seasons when joy plays an unwelcome game of Hide and Seek. Disappointment, worry, and adversity blur our lens on life, sabotaging our ability to develop the meaningful relationships we long for and realize our worth in Christ.
Finding Joy When Life is Out of Focus will helps you choose contentment regardless of circumstance, transform faulty thought patterns through the truth of God's Word, and persevere when life is unraveling.

Louise Gillis is a classically trained painer of all mediums.  For over twenty-five years, she has achieved notoriety as both a painter and instructor. Her knowledge of impressionist color theory sets the stage for portraiture, still life, interiors, landscape and murals in oil, watercolor, pencil and charcoal.  This versatility allows Louise to focus on the needs of her subject matter and create the vibrancy and depth of each individual painting.

She is pleased to exhibit her paintings at beautiful Lake of the Isles Lutheran Church.
