Lakefront Path Will Be Reopening - June 22
Bars and Tavern Reopen Outside - June 17
Shared Street Program
Dear Neighbors,

The mayor announced today that on June 22, the 18-mile Lakefront Trail east of Lake Shore Drive will be reopened from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily. The trail will be open for exercise and transit only. Everyone who uses the trail will have to abide by a "keep it moving" strategy.

Signage will be installed which will remind users of the rules and social distancing "ambassadors" will staff the trail to educate trail users and manage traffic flow.

Beaches and parks will remain closed for the time being. The Park District will not allow congregating, gathering, or the use of park amenities, including barbecues, picnic areas, and stationary activities.

Not every entrance to the trail will be open. We will share that information when it is available. Due to the significant lakefront storm damage and high lake levels, three sections of the lakefront trail will merge to accommodate users. From Fullerton to North Avenue will be a shared trail. North Avenue to Ohio Street, trail users will be redirected to an on-street detour. From 43rd Street to 51st Street, users will merge onto one trail.

Bars and Breweries Reopen June 17

Mayor Lightfoot also announced today that bars and breweries will be allowed to reopen Wednesday, and they will be allowed to expand their outdoor seating areas under the same rules as restaurants. Patrons must be seated at tables at least six feet apart, with six or fewer people per table.

Patrons will be limited to remain at a bar or brewery for two hours or less and on-site consumption must cease at 11 p.m.; carryout sales of alcohol must cease at 9 p.m.
Shared Streets Program

The City is expanding the Shared Streets program in neighborhoods across Chicago. This program is a city-wide effort to create more space for people to safely enjoy more outdoor activities. The program will close off residential streets to through traffic allowing pedestrians to bike, run, walk, and enjoy the outdoors safely.

Click on the interactive map below to give us your feedback about what streets you think might be good for this initiative, and we will get back to you with CDOT's feedback soon.

Here are some FAQs about Shared Streets.
