Dear Neighbors,
The mayor announced today that on June 22, the 18-mile Lakefront Trail east of Lake Shore Drive will be reopened from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily. The trail will be open for exercise and transit only. Everyone who uses the trail will have to abide by a "keep it moving" strategy.
Signage will be installed which will remind users of the rules and social distancing "ambassadors" will staff the trail to educate trail users and manage traffic flow.
Beaches and parks will remain closed for the time being. The Park District will not allow congregating, gathering, or the use of park amenities, including barbecues, picnic areas, and stationary activities.
Not every entrance to the trail will be open. We will share that information when it is available. Due to the significant lakefront storm damage and high lake levels, three sections of the lakefront trail will merge to accommodate users. From Fullerton to North Avenue will be a shared trail. North Avenue to Ohio Street, trail users will be redirected to an on-street detour. From 43rd Street to 51st Street, users will merge onto one trail.
