Dear Lakehill Summer Camps families,

For nearly two decades, Lakehill’s Summer Camps program has served Dallas families by providing a fun, safe environment for children to continue learning and growing long after the last day of the academic school year. In our engaging, hands-on camps, campers work closely with peers, teachers, and student volunteers in cooperative learning, whether they are engineering LEGO bridges, grilling on a waffle iron, acting out a story, serving the local community, or passing the ball before attempting a goal.

None of this fun, insight, and teamwork is possible without a safe learning environment as an essential foundation. As the world has been adapting to the spread of the COVID-19 virus, Lakehill has been evaluating how we can deliver the same quality camps that families expect while also providing this safe learning environment. Social distancing requirements, wearing personal protective equipment, and capping camps at 25% or 50% of their typical capacity are all measures that would radically transform the summer camp experience. We’ve already heard from many families who would not want their child to attend summer camps at Lakehill, or anywhere else, even with those measures in place.

It is with a heavy heart that I must announce that Lakehill will be cancelling its Summer Camps program for the 2020 season. The June camps are simply coming up too soon for anyone to know how effective our state’s phased return to normalcy will be, and, although we want to be hopeful and optimistic about the process, we believe that the health and well-being of our students, teachers, and families requires a more cautious approach. Though we considered the possibility of keeping camps open for the second half of the summer in July, we know that our energies in July will be devoted to ensuring that all proper training, procedures, and systems are in place for a safe start to the 2020-2021 academic school year. Preparing for the coming school year must be our priority this summer.

All Summer Camps families will receive a full refund of their camp fees. The refund process will begin immediately, and may take a few weeks to process in its entirety.

We miss our Lakehill Summer Camps families, many of whom we have watched grow up summer after summer for many years. We look forward to seeing you all again in the summer of 2021, when Lakehill Summer Camps will be back to provide families with a safe, fun learning environment--all summer long.

Best wishes,

John Trout
