Dear Laker Families,

Happy February! As we continue our exciting journey toward becoming an IB Continuum School, we are thrilled to spotlight this month’s Learner Profile trait: Risk-Taker.

At Windermere Prep, we believe that being a risk-taker means stepping outside our comfort zones, trying new things, and persevering in the face of challenges. It’s about approaching uncertainty with confidence and resilience, whether tackling a tricky math problem, sharing an idea, or standing up for what is right. These skills help our students grow into courageous thinkers and compassionate leaders, ready to make a difference.

Throughout February, students are actively engaging in activities that encourage them to take positive risks in their learning. They are exploring historical figures who demonstrated courage in times of change and reflecting on how stepping outside their comfort zones leads to growth. Classroom discussions, hands-on projects, and personal reflections help students embrace risk-taking as an essential part of learning. Through a growth mindset approach, we emphasize that mistakes and setbacks are valuable learning experiences. As students progress through the program, these skills are scaffolded to build their confidence and ability to take on increasingly complex challenges.

This journey would not be possible without our dedicated teachers, who embody the risk-taking spirit every day. They step beyond traditional methods, innovate in their classrooms, and commit their time and energy to fostering an environment where students feel safe to take risks. Their passion and willingness to grow alongside our students make this IB initiative truly meaningful.

Our path toward becoming an IB Continuum School continues to flourish, and we are grateful for your partnership. The IB framework nurtures internationally minded learners who are knowledgeable, open-minded, and principled risk-takers.

Together, we are cultivating an environment where students feel safe to explore, innovate, and lead with courage. You can also encourage your child to be a risk-taker at home by celebrating moments when they step outside their comfort zone—whether trying a new activity, making a new friend, or speaking up with confidence. Recognizing these moments fosters a growth mindset and builds resilience.

Thank you for being such an essential part of our community. Your support inspires our students to embrace challenges and thrive. If you have any questions about our IB journey or how we nurture risk-taking in our classrooms, please reach out.

With gratitude,

Mrs. Jamie Davidoff
