Dear Laker Community,
Last week marked an important milestone for our Lower School as we continued our journey toward becoming an authorized IB Primary Years Programme school. We had the pleasure of welcoming our PYP consultant, Mrs. Eugenia Maria Jenner Goytortua, a seasoned IB trainer and Head of School at Colegio Williams de Cuernavaca. During her visit, she spent time in classrooms and met with parents, students, and teachers to help us reflect on where we are in the process and to guide us as we look ahead to our next steps in developing a strong and thriving PYP program.
The visit provided a wonderful opportunity to pause and recognize the incredible work happening each day across our school. The level of student engagement, the quality of teaching and learning, and the sense of purpose in our classrooms are a direct reflection of the dedication and professionalism of our staff. Our teachers have embraced this journey with openness, collaboration, and a deep commitment to continuous growth. Implementing the PYP is meaningful, complex work, and it requires time, reflection, and a willingness to learn together. We are so proud of the care, effort, and expertise our teachers bring to this process.
At the heart of this work is the strong sense of community that continues to define our Lower School. The warmth, respect, and trust shared among students, teachers, and families creates an environment where children feel safe to ask questions, take risks, and grow. In February, we will begin a school-wide focus on the IB Learner Profile attribute of Risk-Taker. Being a risk-taker means having the courage to try new things, step outside of our comfort zones, and view mistakes as opportunities to learn. This growth mindset is essential not only for our students, but for our entire school community as we work towards becoming an IB continuum school.
We are incredibly proud of our students and staff for embracing this challenge and grateful for your continued partnership and support. We look forward to sharing more updates as we continue this exciting journey together!
