Dear Laker Community,
This October, Windermere Prep is highlighting the IB Learner Profile Trait of Inquirer. Inquirers nurture their curiosity, develop research and thinking skills, and take ownership of their learning, both in and beyond the classroom. Across all divisions, our students and teachers are embracing inquiry as a mindset and a way of learning.
In the Lower School, our students are natural inquirers, and our teachers are nurturing that curiosity through the continued development of our units of inquiry. Each homeroom features key unit components and activities displayed for students to view and reflect on their learning journey. Inquiry journals, question-gathering, and visible thinking routines are just a few of the tools guiding students through the inquiry cycle and helping them take ownership of their discoveries.
In the Middle School, inquiry is flourishing through the new MYP Design course, where students explore the design cycle to create innovative solutions to real-world challenges. Teachers are also developing interdisciplinary units that encourage students to connect learning across subjects, think critically, and apply knowledge in meaningful ways.
In the High School, inquiry is taking center stage through a variety of experiences. Our Model United Nations team recently competed at Georgia Tech, applying research and debate skills to real-world global issues. Next week, students will express their creativity and school spirit during Homecoming Week, while the Performing Arts Department brought history to life with their energetic production of “Six.” Our senior IB Diploma Programme students just celebrated the culmination of their Extended Essays, a year-long inquiry and research project; meanwhile, our sophomores and juniors are preparing to embark on their own MYP Personal Projects and DP Extended Essays.
Inquiry lives not only in our classrooms, but also in how our families engage with each student’s personal journey at Windermere Prep. As you explore options and take steps to shape your future, we invite families of students in Grades 6-10 to join us for IB 201: IB Diploma and Laker Learner Concentration Information Night, taking place in the Cypress Center at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 28. You can RSVP here.
From the classroom to the stage and beyond, inquiry is alive and well at Windermere Prep. Our students continue to ask questions, explore ideas, and grow as lifelong learners; embodying what it means to be inquirers.
