2020 created a “Wave of Change” – Let’s use 2021 to ride this wave of change and get back up on our feet!
Change is the only constant in life. There has never been a greater need to navigate change than right now – so how do we do it successfully? 90% of how and what we do is done ‘automatically’. How do we ensure we are most effective with the 10% of the time we are consciously choosing? Hypnosis is about aligning the 10% of what we do consciously with the 90% of what we do subconsciously or ‘automatically’.
Join us to learn about tools to put the power of 100% of our mind to work for us, both in and out of change.

DECEMBER 3 - HEALTHCARE NETWORK GROUP MEETING
Presenters Randall Hutchinson and Yarden Blumstein provided an overview of Friendship Circle and the UMatter Program.
UMatter is a program focused on empowering teens to shatter the stigmas surrounding mental health challenges and suicide. It operates within the Friendship Circle family and is led by Teen Director Rabbi Yarden Blumstein. After recognizing a need for a larger discussion about mental health in the Detroit community, Friendship Circle created a teen advisory board to work on projects that would go on to create an atmosphere of inclusion within the community.
Thanks for sharing and thanks to everyone who participated this morning. We encourage you to be kind to one another and check in with teens, friends, co-workers, neighbors, etc. during this time so that people know you care!

It has been my honor and privilege to serve as a Board Member of the LACC for the last year. Over the year I have had the good fortune of getting to know my fellow board members and the amazing professional staff at the LACC office. I have and continue to be an Ambassador. In 2019 it was my good fortune to have been chosen as Ambassador of the Year. The Chamber has afforded me the opportunity to connect and network with the wide array of local of businesses and members of the Chamber as well as gaining exposure for my business in the community.
In addition to being a Board Member and an Ambassador, I belong to two of our Chamber’s unique referral LABAT groups (Lakes Area Business Alliance Teams). This has afforded me additional opportunities to create new business relationships, to educate members about my unique products and companies, and to develop invaluable friendships.
Previous to the start of my entrepreneurial life I taught elementary and special education in Oak Park for over 21 years. In addition to my bachelor degree (MSU) and master’s degree (Wayne State) I have a Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership from Oakland University. I’ve been married to Sander (Sandy) for 24 years and have two fabulous step-daughters, Brooke and Alexa. I am also the very proud Lynnie (Grandmother) of 10-year-old Maya.
I joined the Lakes Area Chamber and a LABAT Group in March 2016 with an earlier business that boomed thanks to the Chamber. Another fabulous opportunity opened up in January 2018 and I began my career with MONAT GLOBAL. MONAT is a full line of hair care products for all ages, genders and hair care needs with a holistic approach. MONAT’s products also address the 11 signs of aging hair including thinness, brittleness, breakage and loss of hair density.
In late August 2018 another amazing opportunity presented itself. I was introduced to CBD oil by my physician who suggested I try CBD in place of the “serious” pain medications I was taking due to a life changing accident she had while teaching in 1994. CBD successfully replaced my pharmaceuticals as of October 2018. CBD is a form of cannabis but contains only 3% THC (Healthy without the high). I began selling the HEMPWORX products I use daily. HEMPWORX is a subsidiary of MY DAILY CHOICE, which also sells Daily Sprays, the go-to vitamin spray to help your body get what it needs throughout the day, and Mantra essential oils and scents. Both of my businesses are fabulous, lucrative network marketing opportunities for those who are interested.
In October 2020 I had an “incident” that I am successfully recovering from and I want to thank my Chamber family and friends who have reached out to me with fabulous referrals and support. This is why I belong to this uniquely amazing Chamber. God bless and Happy New Year to all!

The Chamber is working on
scheduling our 2021 First Friday
and Third Thursday Coffee
Connects ...
Through winter and late spring we are planning for virtual Zoom "mixers"; warmer weather and Covid-19 status will dictate when folks are comfortable about resuming in-person coffees.
We will be reaching out to those who wanted to host a coffee in 2020 and could not ... we are also asking all our members if you would like to host a Zoom coffee during the first half of the year, please email Michele at [email protected] to book a date. Zoom coffees are fun too - PJs, bunny slippers, the beverage and snack of your choice ... and our hosts still get time to present what they want to share about their business while the guests get the round-robin "who they are and what they do" .... it's a WIN-WIN nice way to start a morning!

Oakland County Michigan Works! Expands Free, Virtual Workshop Program for Job Seekers
Oakland County Michigan Works! is expanding its free virtual workshop program through March 2021 and includes a new workshop entitled “Presenting a Professional Image.”
The virtual workshops began last spring after the county’s six Michigan Works! service centers were closed to the public due to COVID-19 concerns. Nearly 1,000 people participated in the live, online sessions covering various career development and job search topics.
A key to a successful career move is exhibiting a professional image, no matter the type of position, said Tamara Myles, talent development specialist at Oakland County Michigan Works! Waterford and presenter of the newest virtual workshop.
“Your professional image projects your character and determines others’ impression of you,” Myles said. “While there are plenty of resources to teach you how to dress for success, that is only part of the story in managing your professional image. In this workshop, you’ll learn to exude your best qualities.”
Workshop topics include:
- Resume and Cover Letter Writing: Opening the Door to Employment
- Virtual Interviewing: Making a Great Impression
- The Language of LinkedIn: Using the Popular Career Tool the Right Way
- Changing Careers: New Opportunities, New Future
- Mid-Life Career Transitions: Switching Careers and Flourishing in Today’s Economy
- Personal Brand: Building and Maintaining a Successful Marketing Strategy for You!
- Presenting a Professional Image: Appearance, Communication and Performance
- Career Vision Board: Showcasing Your Interests, Skills and Goals
- Gig Jobs: Exploring Non-Traditional Employment Opportunities
Oakland County Michigan Works! operates service centers in Novi, Oak Park, Pontiac, Southfield, Troy and Waterford. Combined, they assist more than 105,000 job seekers annually. Services include career coaching, interviewing and job search workshops, placement assistance, training courses and job trend information.
The service centers also assist more than 3,000 employers seeking assistance with talent recruitment, apprenticeship programs, job fairs, candidate pre-screening, hiring and training support, layoff support and labor market data.
Service center staffs remain available by virtual appointment to work one-on-one with job seekers to build their resumes, prepare for job interviews and help address other needs. To schedule a virtual meeting, call 1-248-858-5520 and select the office nearest to you.

Ambassadors are conducting outreach to statewide businesses to offer education and support to implement regulations on workplace safety.
In addition to tier-one education which provides a brief consultation, businesses can now visit the COVID-19 workplace safety website to schedule tier-two consultations, an in-depth assessment of workplace safety requirements, with NSF International. These in-depth, collaborative meetings will connect employers directly with an Ambassador to identify and implement solutions in their specific workplace free of charge to the business. Tier-two visits are targeted to these at-risk industries: retail stores, restaurants and gyms.
Businesses that successfully complete tier-two visits will soon receive official signage to acknowledge COVID-19 workplace safety commitments and efforts to keep customers and employees safe.
Ambassadors are delivering education toolkits to businesses statewide as part of tier-one efforts for the Ambassador program. The toolkit enables a review of current workplace safety and health procedures to limit the risk of COVID-19 transmission. Ambassadors will not propose citations or issue penalties. They are there to work with businesses to improve conditions and help comply with regulations on workplace safety.
Employers and employees with specific questions regarding workplace safety and health may contact MIOSHA using the hotline at 855-SAFEC19 (855-723-3219).
