The 44th Annual LACC Golf Outing was a
tremendous success thanks in large part to YOU!
|
|
A dark sky threatened from time to time, but we only had one short cloudburst that didn’t dampen the spirits of our sold out field of golfers who brought their own warmth and sunshine! Great golfers, fun games, cool prizes, a magnificent golf course, fabulous volunteers, awesome sponsors and a day spent with chamber friends is always a good day away from the office!
|
|
Whether you were a golfer, a sponsor, a volunteer, a committee member or perhaps donated an item for our goody bag or door prize raffle (many of you even contributed in multiple ways) we truly appreciate your support.
It was great to see so many of our members enjoying the day and networking along the way. It’s our hope that in addition to being a supporter of the Annual Golf Outing you also made a few business connections and gained value in promoting your business as a proud member of the Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce. We were happy to welcome several foursomes of new friends from outside our direct member circle as well.
|
|
As we gather our Golf Committee for a wrap-up meeting in the next few weeks, we welcome your comments and suggestions on things that worked and things that might need some “tweaking” for next year. Please feel free to give us a call or send a quick email with your thoughts.
|
|
On behalf of the Golf Committee, the Lakes Area Chamber Board of Directors and the Chamber Staff we thank you for your help in making the event a ton of fun and a huge success. And a special shout-out to Bryan Baert from Ripsaw Media for capturing footage of the fun going on that may become a nice promo video for future events!
We hope to see you at the outing again next year - Happy Golfing!

Chad and his group of 90 employees have been participating in Dodge for Detroit since 2015, and have been the events main sponsors ever since.
If your business could use a day out to really grow together, connect with Chad and get details about how you can be part of this fun tournament.

A Call to Families & The Community:
Let’s Watch Together
CNS Healthcare hosts Suicide Prevention Event
CNS Healthcare is sponsoring a summer virtual conversation series to help and encourage families to learn to talk, listen, and prevent suicide.
“Let’s Watch Together” uses movies as a tool to bond, spark difficult but necessary conversations and to promote open dialogue among families for the purpose of identifying and addressing mental health needs.
“Mental illness affects millions of Americans, and the pandemic added to the levels of mental stress,” said Michael Garrett, President/CEO of CNS Healthcare. “While no one movie can fully address all aspects of mental health or mental illness, we believe it can be a good starting point.”
CNS is offering a list of suggested (but not endorsed) movie selections and free movie gift bags that include a movie gift certificate, support materials, and discussion guide. The goal is to encourage families to watch some of these movies in order to expand current thoughts and opinions on mental illness and mental health.
Participating is as simple as 1, 2, 3:
Step one: Pick up your free movie bags for your family. These bags include a discussion guide, selfcare master plan booklet, movie treats, and a gift card to allow you to rent one of the movies on Amazon.
FREE Movie Bags to the first 300 families. Pick up a bag drive-through style on June 30 11am-2pm or July 13 11am-2pm at 20303 Kelly Road, Detroit OR 24230 Karim BLVD, Novi OR 279 Summit Drive, Waterford. If you cannot make those dates, stop by at one of the above offices anytime between June 30-July 20 and see our front desk staff for your free bag.
Step two: Watch the selected movie(s)* with the provided conversation guide. The featured movies to spark conversations include Inside Out, Perks of Being a Wallflower, It’s Kind of a Funny Story, Silver Linings Playbook, and A Beautiful Mind. *CNS Healthcare does not endorse or hold responsibility for the content of the suggested movies.
Step three: Attend one (or all) of our virtual conversations featuring local mental health experts. These concise virtual events will provide viewers valuable mental health, crisis, and suicide prevention information. Viewers will also be able to ask live questions to the panel of local health professionals. Sessions include July 21, 7pm-8pm: Families with children; July 28, 7pm-8pm: Families with teens; August 4, 7pm-8pm: Adults.

Genisys Credit Union named a Best Credit Union in Michigan by Forbes
For the second year in a row, Genisys Credit Union is recognized as a Best Credit Union in Michigan from Forbes in their annual “America’s Best-In-State Credit Unions.”
“Receiving recognition from Forbes as a Best Credit Union affirms our continued efforts to provide service excellence for our members,” said Jackie Buchanan, President & CEO of Genisys Credit Union. “Through personalized services, tailored products, and competitive rates, we work to create an environment where members can focus on their financial health in a way that works for them. We sincerely thank all who make Genisys their credit union of choice.”
Forbes partnered with market research firm, Statista, to survey 25,000 consumers who were asked to rate credit unions at which they have or previously have had checking accounts. The survey looked at trust, terms and conditions, branch services, digital services, customer service, and financial advice in regards to overall satisfaction.
Built on the principle of putting members first, Genisys Credit Union gives back with their Genius High Yield Checking, which pays members an annual percentage yield (APY) of 4.07% and offers debit card rewards. For those 18 and under, they have a High Yield Youth Savings with an APY of 5.12% on balances up to $500. “By growing their savings, this program aims to help our youngest members learn the importance of financial literacy in reaching their financial goals,” said Buchanan.
They continue to enhance their mobile and online banking system with features and functionality such as “on/off” debit and credit card controls. The controls allow you to receive usage notifications, adjust spending limits in real time, set GPS location limits, offer touchID for quick card access, and more to stay in control of your card, safely and securely.
“A cornerstone of community action lies in giving back,” said Buchanan. “We focus on upholding the role of community partner by ensuring each branch in our footprint is supported based on the area’s unique needs, positively impacting the well-being of our community members.” The credit union partners with local organizations to support events for community members to attend at little or no cost, brings Reality Fairs to schools for students to get hands-on experience with budgeting & financial wellness, and raises funds for non-profit organizations like Lighthouse and the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan.
With a commitment to drive Michigan’s economy forward, Genisys upholds its commitment to service excellence to help individuals, families, and businesses manage their finances in a trustworthy, convenient, and economical manner while remaining committed to their communities.
|
|
At Genisys Credit Union, we value our employees who are essential to our ongoing growth and success as a financial institution of choice.
Genisys Credit Union is currently seeking motivated candidates for Part Time and Full Time teller openings at our local branches including Wixom, Commerce, White Lake and Waterford.

OCC Celebrates
Class of 2021 Graduates
A Class Like No Other Leads the Way for a Celebration of Equal Proportion
After a year like no other, which featured Oakland Community College’s first-ever, all-online year of learning, OCC celebrated its Class of 2021 graduates’ great achievement with a virtual commencement. This was the second year the event was held virtually, and nearly 1,600 graduates were honored.
“You were asked to achieve everything that students have done in past ‘normal’ years, while overcoming unbelievable challenges in the process,” said Peter M. Provenzano Jr., OCC Chancellor. “But you did it.”
Following the Virtual Commencement ceremonies, graduates and their families gathered at the Orchard Ridge campus for OCC’s first ever Commencement Car Parade. Nearly 150 cars full of graduates and their loved ones drove through the approximately one-mile long parade route, which was adorned with inspirational quotes, lively music, balloons and decorations, and most importantly, OCC faculty and staff members cheering them on. At the end of the parade route, graduates drove across a “green carpet” and had their names announced by Academic Deans, as well as receiving accolades from Chancellor Peter Provenzano and Provost Jennifer Berne.
The commencement ceremonies remain available
