Comerica Bank Hosts Shred Day in Southeast Michigan June 15
Comerica, Iron Mountain and Re-Source Partners help consumers protect their identity with free document shredding and electronics recycling in Livonia
DETROIT, MAY 14, 2019 –
Comerica Bank
is partnering with
Iron Mountain Incorporated
and
Re-Source Partners
to provide consumers, small businesses and nonprofit organizations with free shredding and electronics recycling on Saturday, June 15, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Comerica Livonia Operations Center (39200 W. Six Mile, Livonia 48152).
Now in its 12th year, Shred Day helps consumers protect their identity and the environment while supporting those in need in our community.
“With over 31 million U.S. consumers affected by identity fraud over the past two years, the number of victims is staggering,” said Michael T. Richie, Comerica Bank Michigan Market President. “During that same time, the out-of-pocket fraud costs to consumers has doubled to $1.7 billion. This research continues to reinforce the importance of providing the community an opportunity to protect individuals, families and small businesses from identity theft and fraud.”
Since 2013, Shred Day in metro Detroit has led to securely destroying nearly 250,000 pounds of paper, which then was turned into pulp and recycled. The process of recycling paper into new paper products generates 74% less air pollution and uses 50% less water.
Small electronics weighing almost 15,000 pounds have been collected and securely recycled since 2016.
In addition to consumer protection, Comerica proudly supports Southeast Michigan communities by improving environmental sustainability and landfill reduction while assisting those in need from donations raised during Shred Day.
SHREDDING HUNGER
Comerica Bank also will help shred hunger at the event. Representatives from
Gleaners Community Food Bank
will collect cash donations and nonperishable food items. Over the past three years, food and monetary donations collected during Shred Day has provided on average over 3,300 meals per year.
CORPORATE SUSTAINABILITY
Shred Day has become a signature community event for Comerica since its launch in Michigan 12 years ago. Shred Days are also held in the Dallas, Houston and Phoenix markets, which play integral roles in Comerica’s corporate sustainability initiatives.
Comerica Bank, a subsidiary of Comerica Incorporated, has served Michigan longer than any other bank with a continuous presence dating back 170 years to its Detroit founding in 1849. It is the largest bank employer in metro Detroit and has more than 4,800 employees (FTE) statewide. With one of the largest banking center networks in Michigan, Comerica nurtures lifelong relationships with unwavering integrity and financial prudence. Comerica positively impacts the lives of Michigan residents by helping customers be successful, providing financial support that assists hundreds of charitable organizations, and actively participating in Detroit’s downtown revitalization. Comerica Incorporated (NYSE: CMA) is a financial services company strategically aligned by three business segments: The Business Bank, The Retail Bank, and Wealth Management. Follow on Facebook at
www.facebook.com/Comerica
and Twitter @ComericaBank.
