Jen Matschikowski
American House West Bloomfield

|
|
|
Jen studied Psychology and Social Work at Central Michigan University where she was highly active in volunteering locally and nationally. Through her volunteer service- she developed a love for the aging adult population. “I volunteered with children’s agencies, young adult agencies and nursing homes. It became clear to me that there is a huge need for passionate people- who care about our aging population. My heart just connects with older adults-it is a privilege and honor to work with and learn from people who have lived much more life than I have.”
Jen started her career in the Senior Living industry six years ago; and while her education is in social services she has progressed her career in the business development and marketing side of the industry. “I have always had a niche for marketing, when I was in high school I actually placed top 20 in the nation of marketing students for a public relations campaign I created. I am blessed that I have been able to find a career path and grow my career in a way that brings together my professional talents and my hearts passion”.
Daily Jen assists with operations of the building, works with adult children looking for senior living for a parent or loved one, attends networking meetings and is the face of the business, puts on community events and looks for ways to give back to the community. “I love that part of my job is being able to give back to the community. I live local, so being able to give back to where I live is so meaningful to me”.
When not at work- Jen enjoys being outside taking walks or going to the park with her two Dachshunds Birdie and Bogey. If you can’t tell by their names, Jen is a golfer and enjoys getting out to the course. Jen is recently married and is expecting her first child - a little boy.

Genisys Credit Union recognized as
The Oakland Press’ “Best of the Best”
Genisys Credit Union has been voted “Best of the Best” in the Oakland Press Readers Choice Awards for Credit Union, Financial Advisor, and Mortgage Lender. The credit union would like to extend a thank you to all that took the time to vote to make this opportunity possible.
“Recognitions like ‘Best of the Best’ affirm our continued efforts to provide service excellence for our members,” said Jackie Buchanan, President & CEO of Genisys Credit Union. “We work to create an environment where members can focus on their financial health through personalized services, tailored products, and competitive rates while investing in the communities in which they live & work by concentrating on financial education, non-profit giveback, and event sponsorships.”
They have been recognized as Best Credit Union and Mortgage Lender for 12 consecutive years and Best Financial Advisor for five.
Built on the principle of putting members first, the credit union gives back to their members with Genius High Yield Checking, which pays an annual percentage yield (APY) of 4.07% and offers debit card rewards. For those 18 and under, they have a High Yield Youth Savings with an APY of 5.12% on balances up to $500.
“This account aims to help our youngest members grow their savings while learning the important role finances play in their life,” said Buchanan. With support from the Michigan Credit Union Foundation, the credit union hosts virtual Reality Fairs for students to get a hands-on, interactive experience to advance their financial understanding through realistic approaches to budgeting. They’ve brought the program to various school districts in Oakland County such as Rochester, Lake Orion, Oxford, Clarkston, and Pontiac.
A mission at the credit union is to invest in the success and vibrancy of their branch areas. Genisys partners with local organizations to support events for community members to attend at little or no cost along with raising funds for non-profit organizations like Lighthouse and Oakland Livingston Human Service Agency (OLHSA). They were proud to increase support in their communities through the pandemic and are working diligently to continue that support.
In 2020, Genisys was voted a Detroit Free Press Top Workplace for the 13th year in a row and a Best & Brightest Place to Work in Metro Detroit. The credit union also ranks in the Top 200 Healthiest Credit Union by despositaccounts.com while also receiving a 5-Star rating from Bauer Financial for safety & soundness. Genisys also had the great honor of receiving the Crystal Award by Raddon, a Fiserv Company. The award recognizes credit unions for achieving a top ten ranking across a scorecard of criteria with honorees ranking in the top 2 to 3 percent of credit unions nationwide.
The employees of Genisys appreciate the “Best of the Best” recognition and look forward to continuing to serve their members and communities.

Baker College and Oakland Community College Announce New Articulation Agreement
Formal Partnership Will Aid in Seamless Transfer Process
for Bachelor’s Degree Students
Baker College, Michigan’s largest private, not-for-profit college and top private transfer school in the state, and Oakland Community College (OCC), Michigan’s largest multi-campus community college, are pleased to announce the signing of an official articulation agreement. The agreement was recently finalized by Baker College President, Dr. Bart Daig, and Dr. Jennifer Berne, OCC Provost.
The articulation agreement, effective immediately, enables OCC students to easily transfer into one of several select bachelor’s degree programs at Baker College, providing them with resources for a simplified and streamlined pathway to complete their studies. The agreement ensures a smooth curriculum transition, minimizing loss of credits and duplication of coursework.
Additionally, Baker will waive any new student application fees for eligible students admitted in connection with the OCC articulation agreement. Baker College also offers specific scholarships for transfer students, including the Trustees Transfer Scholarship, with up to $9,000 per year available to eligible students.
“Between Baker College and OCC, we share a passion for our students’ success, and our new partnership demonstrates one more step we’re taking to ensure that success,” said Dr. Daig. “We look forward to welcoming even more OCC transfer students to our Baker campuses, and are ready to provide them with exceptional academic opportunities.”
“We are pleased to partner with Baker College on a number of pathways that will ensure that OCC students complete their Baccalaureate in as smooth and certain a way as possible,” said Dr. Berne. “Our hope is that we are able to offer OCC graduates a second congratulations as they achieve their four-year degrees.”
Under the new arrangement, Baker College and OCC agree that any student who has successfully completed coursework and/or programs at OCC may transfer the course credits as indicated in transfer guides toward their degree at Baker. The associate degree to bachelor’s degree pathway will be available across a variety of programs, including: business administration (management), computer science, game software development, information assurance, information systems, information technology & security and psychology. These new pathways allow OCC graduates to earn between 80 to 90 credits prior to transferring to Baker College for the completion of their bachelor’s degree.
Additionally, as with all Michigan Community Colleges, OCC associate degree graduates are eligible for Baker College’s 60+60 Bridge to Bachelor’s program, which allows OCC students with 60 credits to be admitted to a related bachelor’s program at the junior level, meaning only 60 additional credit hours from Baker will be required to complete a degree.
