Infused 365 Business Conference
Friday, October 25, 2019
|
|
Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce and our Lakes Area Young Professionals Group joined the
Waterford Area Chamber of Commerce and their Young Professional Network at Infused 365.
Fox2's Roop Raj was our first speaker and his candid and heartfelt discussion about "Accepting Rejection" was right on point and something everyone can relate to. Roop's advice to be yourself and learn from every aspect of your life ... Especially the Rejection! His time working in New Orleans during hurricane Katrina and the joy of working back near his hometown of Troy were just a part of the wonderful storytelling. And we were off to a great start ...
Margaret Dimond, President and CEO of
McLaren Oakland, was our next speaker and she discussed "GRIT" and various work environments and the importance of not being a "Boss" but instead a "Leader." Succeeding in a very competitive corporate world herself she shared that it takes more than just pure luck!
Danny Dumas, Captain with the
Waterford Regional Fire Department, shared some "WOW" and "WHAT" moments along with a combination of truly inspiring, funny and dramatic stories that he's faced in his personal and professional life. Darn, he made me cry too! What a terrific group of speakers!!

Chopped - Chamber Edition
Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital
Tuesday, October 29, 2019
|
|
Our thanks to Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital for hosting the Annual Chopped Chamber Cook-off in their fabuluous Demonstration Kitchen. Kudos to Amy Strauss, Romy Shubitowski and Eric Wallis for organizing the event!
The competition was fierce with Chef James Gaines of Sedona Taphouse Novi representing for the Novi Chamber of Commerce while Chef Johnathan Lynch of Bar Verona Commerce Township represented for our Lakes Area Chamber.
The judges certainly had a tough job with both chefs receiving plenty of compliments on their breakfast creations. In the end, Chef Johnathan from Bar Verona took home the trophy with his dish edging out the competition. We're so excited ... and hope you'll stop by Bar Verona to sample more of Chefs award-winning cooking!!
Members from both chambers were on hand to cheer on their teams, enjoy a terrific continental breakfast and network with our neighboring chamber friends. Afterwards, guests enjoyed the Pumpkin Creations offered in the lobby which were decorated by the various hospital departments. Thanks to all who joined in the fun.

TWO MEN AND A TRUCK
®
Kicks Off
Movers for Military
Drive to Help Veterans in Shelters
Community-Supported Program Aids Veterans in Crisis on Veterans Day
Veterans Day is a time to thank our veterans for their sacrifice and service to this country, but many of our veterans remain homeless and living in shelters.
Tragic statistics from the
National Coalition for Homeless Veterans
state that about one third of the adult homeless population in the US is veterans. About 131,000 veterans are homeless on any given night, and over the course of a year approximately twice that experience homelessness. About 1.5 million other veterans are considered at risk of homelessness due to lack of support networks and dismal living conditions in overcrowded or substandard housing.
This fall marks the fifth anniversary of the
Movers for Military
program. In 2018, franchises across the country collected nearly 40,000 donations for veterans in need. This year,
TWO MEN AND A TRUCK®
is seeking to further expand the program nationwide.
TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® is the largest franchised moving company both in the United States and internationally. Currently there are 352 national locations and 2,669 trucks operating in the U.S.; in total, the company operates more than 380 locations and 2,700 trucks. TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® has performed more than 6 million moves since its inception in 1985. The company has seen consistent monthly growth dating back to December 2009 and more than 85 consecutive months of growth. Each location is independently owned and operated.
