SEPTEMBER 3 - HEALTHCARE NETWORK GROUP MEETING
Our Healthcare Networking Group enjoyed a little virtual networking and a terrific presentation from Christine Allyson of Christal Clear Consulting, Riding the Wave of Change - From Stress to Stress-less!!!
We can't take care of anyone else if we don't also take care of ourselves. Some things to think about when dealing with stress:
- Our success depends upon where we put our focus
- The chemical wave of stress is only 90 seconds.
- After that whether or not we remain in stress is dependent upon where we focus our attention.
- It is therefore imperative to define what and where we will focus upon.
Christine has over 35 years of expertise helping individuals and groups successfully achieve their goals by teaching them how to replace their fear of change, with love of growth and evolution.
Thanks to Christine and the continued participation of those folks in our Healthcare Network Group.

State completes planned aerial treatment to combat EEE
Michiganders should continue taking precautions
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Sept. 24, 2020
LANSING, Mich. – Aerial treatment to help prevent the spread of Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) was completed Wednesday, Sept. 23, with more than 462,000 acres treated, announced the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS).
At this time, no additional treatment is planned. MDHHS will continue to monitor the situation and treatment zones could be added if new cases are found and aerial treatment would be effective to reducing risk of exposure.
Currently, confirmed cases of EEE include a Barry County resident and 32 animals - 30 equine and two deer. In addition, a Montcalm County resident is suspected to have EEE following preliminary testing by the MDHHS Bureau of Laboratories. Impacted counties are Allegan, Barry, Calhoun, Clare, Ionia, Isabella, Jackson, Kent, Livingston, Mecosta, Montcalm, Newaygo and Oakland.
“Aerial treatment was important to protect the health and safety of Michiganders,” said Dr. Joneigh Khaldun, chief medical executive and chief deputy for health for MDHHS. “We continue to urge communities and residents to take precautions against mosquito bites as the risk of EEE remains until the first hard frost.”
EEE is one of the most dangerous mosquito-borne diseases in the United States, with a 33 percent fatality rate in people who become ill. People can be infected with EEE from one bite of a mosquito carrying the virus. Persons younger than age 15 and over age 50 are at greatest risk of severe disease following infection.
Residents can stay healthy by following steps to avoid mosquito bites:
- Apply insect repellents that contain the active ingredient DEET, or other U.S. Environmental Protection Agency-approved product to exposed skin or clothing, and always follow the manufacturer’s directions for use.
- Wear long-sleeved shirts and long pants when outdoors.
- Maintain window and door screening to help keep mosquitoes outside.
- Empty water from mosquito breeding sites around the home, such as buckets, unused kiddie pools, old tires or similar sites where mosquitoes may lay eggs.
- Use nets and/or fans over outdoor eating areas.

Free Cybersecurity Website Launched as County Honored as National Tech Leader for 16th Consecutive Year
Oakland County's Department of Information Technology recently launched a free cybersecurity website that offers residents, schools, businesses and neighboring counties cybersecurity training, advice and connections to help them prepare and defend themselves from cybercriminals and cyberattacks.
The website, found at www.oakgov.com/cybersecurity, was created after a recommendation from the “Secure IT Oakland” cybersecurity and infrastructure task force, which was formed in March. It includes security training videos on COVID-19 cyberscams, best practices and how to work from home safely.
Oakland County continues to be a national technology leader. Industry experts tell us there is a one in three chance an organization will experience a data breach within two years at an average cost of more than $8 million. These modern attacks are not merely expensive inconveniences – they put people’s health, safety and lives at risk. This website provides valuable guidance and resources to help all of us improve our cybersecurity at work, school or home.
The launch comes days after Oakland County was honored by the National Association of Counties and the Center for Digital Government, ranking it among the most digitally advanced counties in the United States.
The county was recognized with three NACo awards and a seventh-place finish nationally by the Center, for innovation, commitment to the cybersecurity of county data and its willingness to assist neighboring counties involved in security incidents. It is the 16th consecutive year Oakland County has been named one of the best in the country.
