AUGUST 6 - HEALTHCARE NETWORK GROUP MEETING
Thanks again to Jen Matschikowski from Westlake Health Campus for taking time to be our Guest Speaker at our August Healthcare Network Group Meeting.
Jen provided an update on steps being taken at Westlake and other senior living communities to ensure the safety and well-being of their residents. She mentioned some items and actions that might be taken by area residents to help the mental well-being of seniors including write-in card campaigns to the residents or drive-by parades to show we're thinking of them.
Looking for something positive for your kids to do ... a write-in card campaign is the perfect way to give back. Donations of yarn, activity books, puzzles, etc. is another way to support area seniors.
Thanks, Jen! And thanks to the HNG participants for continuing to stay connected with one another virtually during this time.

When Walter Rosenblum was first introduced to the Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce he was a member of another chamber. He started making comparisons. First to the Chamber itself and its activities (many more compared to the other chamber that he belonged to). Second to the membership (the LACC’s was much friendlier than the membership of the chamber he already belonged to). Third to the price of membership (the LACC’s was much lower than the current chamber that he belonged to, with more activities to get to know people and to network with). It became a no-brainer, Walter dropped his membership in the other chamber and joined the Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce, a decision he has never regretted.
Walter, at the time he joined was an accountant who specialized in supporting QuickBooks (he was an Advanced QuickBooks Pro Advisor). The name of his company at that time was Accounting Systems Consultants, LLC. When the Board of Directors decided to update their accounting system, they asked Walter to set up QuickBooks for them and to train the staff on how to use the new accounting program. Several month’s later he was asked by the Board if he would be interested in first, redesigning the Board’s monthly financial reports and then helping to prepare them. Walter accepted both challenges and was asked to join the Board about two years later.
Since joining the Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce, Walter has been very active in several areas of the Chamber. In addition to preparing the monthly reports for many years, he has been a member of the Ambassadors committee, the Government Affairs committee, the Chamber’s treasurer twice (from 1/09 to 12/12 and from 1/17 to 12/18). He is a past president (1/13 to 12/14), and one of the founders of the group that ultimately became the LABAT groups.
In 2014, after a serious illness, Walter semi-retired from accounting and changed his membership affiliation to his new business (which he still operates today) Associate’s in Hypnosis, LLC. Walter has been interested in hypnosis since high school, and in 2000 had an opportunity to become a Certified Hypnotherapist. About three years later, he completed a two-year program that earned him the designation of Certified Medical Hypnotherapist. Today, Walter meets with clients with all sorts of issues such as stop smoking, weight loss, pain management, fears and phobias, stress management and many more issues. He has helped fellow LACC member with such issues as study habits, memory retention, test taking and help with medication side effects. His office is in Farmington, Michigan.
Walter has been married to Nancy for the past 23 years. He has 3 children: Eric, Dana and Daniel, as well as his children-in law: Heather and Adam. From these 5 wonderful people he has 6 grandchildren: Erin (21), Morgan (13), Hayley (12), Collin (7), Scot (5) and Juliana (6 months). To these 6 people he’s known as Grandpa Wolfie (don’t ask about that one).

“The Many Faces of Heroes” Military, Veterans, First Responder, Essential Workers & Special Individuals
It is so important that we recognize ordinary people who do extraordinary things especially now during these uncertain times. Heroes are family, friends, mentors, educators, essential workers, first responders, and military men and women who respond to adversity and rise up to help others.
As part of our ongoing commitment to supporting established visual and performing arts programs, groups, educators, families, and students in our area, we are reaching out to “You” to help us recognize the “ Many Faces of Heroes”.
The Huron Valley Council for the Arts is sponsoring an essay contest to nominate and honor your personal hero. Tell us why you are nominating this person and what impact he or she has on you and your community. The essay contest is open to anyone and will be judged by a panel based on the following categories - Junior Division - Ages 7-12, Young Adult - Ages 13-18, and Adult - Ages 18+.
Everyone is welcome to participate. Essay submissions will be received on line at www.Hero@.huronvalleyarts.org. You may enter any time now thru September 15, 2020.
Essay winners will be recognized at The Many Faces of Heroes Concert and Award Presentation October 17, 2020 featuring the Stardusters Big Band to be held at Milford High School. Essays and Art work submissions will be on display at HVCA October – December 2020.

From the Office of
Congresswoman Haley Stevens
The Michigan Manufacturing Technology Center in Plymouth created a Safe to Work Playbook for their organization that outlines the various steps they have taken to ensure they are prepared, responsive, and operating safely during the COVID-19 pandemic. This includes information on: staff training, preparing the physical space for employees to return, onsite precautions for individuals, and how to return after isolation/quarantine.
We hope that this guide can be a resource to your small businesses as they are thinking through procedures, restrictions, and creating safe environments for their employees and patrons.
