Why record volunteer hours?
You have already done a great job being diligent in submitting your volunteer hours for the summer. A few of you have been curious as to why the Lakeside Chautauqua Foundation (LCF) may be asking this of you...

  • Some grants that the LCF applies for ask how many volunteers have assisted the institution and how much time volunteers have given. In other words, your volunteering helps Lakeside apply and receive grants to make the quality of your Lakeside experience even better.
  • Lakeside is currently being impacted by the loss of revenue caused by the changes and disruptions of COVID-19. Lakeside has had to cut down costs through staff and programming reductions. Therefore, volunteers' time and energy is VALUABLE. We want to quantify the value of what you have contributed to Lakeside through your dedication, labor and passion.
  • At the end of this Chautauqua season, Lakeside hopes to recognize ALL that each of you have done in giving back to Lakeside, including a final total of the hours you have put into ensuring that this season is a success. We want to reflect on and appreciate how much the Volunteer Corps has grown and evolved and anticipate what we should focus on moving forward.

For these reasons, we encourage you to submit your volunteer hours to communications@lakesideohio.com , call (419) 798-4461, ext. 246 or stop by the LCF Office at 217 Walnut Ave.
Featured Projects
We’re so thankful for your hard work, and we want to recognize your efforts. Therefore, we're highlighting different volunteers and projects. Please share your photos with communications@lakesideohio.com so you can be featured!

Waterfront Cleanup
We would like to give a heartfelt thank you to Ron and Mary Ann Janke who have kindly led the dock and waterfront cleanup initiative each week. We're so grateful to the Jankes and the other waterfront volunteers for their passion to protect the environment and preserve Lakeside's natural beauty. Your commitment and enthusiasm does not go unnoticed, and we sincerely appreciate your hard work!
If you're interested in joining the Jankes to pick up litter and debris along the waterfront, meet them at the entrance of the dock at 9 a.m. Wednesdays. Volunteers should wear gloves and bring a bag for collection.

Rhein Center Weeding
Thank you to Kathy Kettlewell and Barbara Brewster for working so diligently to weed the garden beds around the Rhein Center. Your hard work is beautifying the area for all to enjoy. It looks great!
Wood Chips
Thank you so much to the group of young volunteers who helped pick up the wood chips by the Grindley Aquatic & Wellness Campus. Your hard work improved the space for families, friends and guests.
"Their work helped our crew and really made a difference in tidying up the area," says Loretta Wilken, Gardening/Grounds Keeper
Upcoming Projects
Mulching projects: We still have a variety of mulching projects around the grounds for those who are interested in tending to garden beds.

Wiping down surfaces: Lakeside needs a few volunteers to help wipe down tables and chairs in the Business District and the chairs on the Pavilion decks once or twice a week. Volunteers will need to provide their own cleaning supplies.
Note: Business District includes Second St. between Maple Ave. and Central Ave., and Walnut Ave. between Bettinger Park and Third St.

Calling all lovers of Hotel Lakeside: We're searching for individuals and families who have a passion for the historic Hotel Lakeside. We would love your help with projects such as painting walls and furniture, removing wallpaper, maintaining the screen doors, etc. Please note, some projects may occur in the fall.

To sign up for these projects, contact communications@lakesideohio.com call (419) 798-4461, ext. 246 or visit the Lakeside Chautauqua Foundation Office, located at 217 Walnut Ave.
