Zaza's Pizzeria Named as One of the Best Pizza's in Chicago

Chicago Magazine shared their list of The Best 25 Pizza Joints in Chicago! Ranking in at #20, is our very own Zaza's Pizzeria!

"What started out as a hobby for brothers Brett and Chadd Nemec during the pandemic turned into a full-fledged pizzeria with fantastic East Coast pies. We love the crust, which is brushed with herb-and-garlic-infused olive oil and finished with salt: Itā€™s light and airy with a good chew. Get your pie or slice topped with spicy Ezzo pepperoni cupsā€‰ā€”ā€‰simple, but just right" (Chicago Magazine 20230)

Located at 3037 N Clark, you can try Zaza's for yourself! Order a whole pie any day Tuesday through Sunday, and slices are available from noon to 4 pm Wednesday - through Sunday!

There's a New Mural in Town

For the past two weeks, Chicago-based artist Laura Junge has dedicated her efforts to create the freshest mural in the neighborhood at the intersection of Broadway and Melrose. Allow us to unveil the latest masterpiece that adds vibrancy to the community:

"Faith in Humanity" - We Are the Cure.

A Word from the Artist: "As human beings we are responsible for many of todayā€™s problems. What we have done to the environment and Global Warming are addressed in this mural. Instead of focusing on the negative, the focus is going to be placed on a positive message. Even though we have been the cause of many of the problems, the most wonderful thing is we can also be the fix. Through the power of love, faith, hope and our intelligence we are capable of so many amazing things. Healing the earth and a better tomorrow can be two of those amazing things. It is my plan with this mural to remind the viewer of this and ask them to be part of the cure. With a lighthearted approach the animals of the earth are there to remind us that it is time to take action."

At the heart of this artwork stands a female figure symbolizing Mother Nature. We hope this piece prompt us all to contribute more towards the preservation of our environment. It constitutes a fantastic enhancement to the community, and we are so excited about this colorful addition to the neighborhood! You can witness this mural in its full glory on the outside of the Juice RX establishment, located at 3241 N Broadway.

PTO Ordinance Update

The Chicago Workforce Development Committee is scheduled to meet at 11:30 on October 30 to pass an ordinance that, in its current form, would require the following:

Requires that Chicago employers provide at least 13 paid leave days as a floor:

6 Paid Sick Leave Days (based on an 8 hour work day / 40 hour week)

Accrual Rate: 1 hour for every 30 hours worked

Cap: 48 hours

Yearly Rollover: 14 days

No payout required, which mirrors the new state law

Notice provided 7 days out if foreseeable; documentation may be requested after 3rd consecutive day

7 Paid Time Off Days

Accrual Rate: 1 hour for every 30 hours worked

Cap: 56 hours

Yearly Rollover: None if paid time off is frontloaded; 5 days if accrued

Payout is required, which does not mirror the state law

Employer may establish pre-approval policy

Retains the current private right of action currently in the Chicago Paid Sick Leave ordinance

Applies to every Chicago business regardless of size or sector

The language does provide equivalency provisions so that businesses that already provide at level or greater PTO benefits can continue to provide those benefits, but that language needs much more clarity in the current proposal. Said differently, because PTO days are viewed as a greater benefit than a paid sick leave day, an employer may offer 13 straight PTO days and exceed the requirements of this ordinance.

Effective Date: January 1, 2024

Remember the new State requirements will be 5 days or 1 hour of PTO for every 40 hours worked. The Sponsor and proponents are attempting to pass this ordinance at the November 1 City Council meeting.
