Coronavirus Disease (COVID 19) in the Workplace
The Lakeview East Chamber of Commerce requests employers take precautions in the workplace in order to help prevent the spread of the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19). The Centers for Disease and Control Prevention (CDCP) has put together an interim guide which outlines important preventive measures employers can take to help prevent the spread of diseases, such as COVID-19. You can find the guide
here.
Some basic practices you should follow are:
- Frequent hand washing (at least 20 seconds per wash)
- Provide hand sanitizers with at least 60-90% alcohol (perhaps include in bathrooms and common areas)
- Lysol or similar wipes for cleaning of frequently touched spaces (doorknobs, desks, phones, etc.)
- Employees should stay home when sick
We are providing this information as a measure of prevention and ask that you check with the CDCP for updates for any late breaking news. We will continue to keep our businesses informed as we monitor the spread/containment of COVID-19. We must all do our parts to prevent and prepare so that we can continue to provide a safe and healthy environment for all those who work, visit and live in our community.

2020 Census
Participation in the census is the right and responsibility of every Chicago resident. An accurate census ensures equal political representation and fair allocation of government resources.
The data are used to determine what resources our communities need. Funds are provided to state and local governments who then use that money to fund programs and infrastructure like healthcare, housing, education, and transportation.
The City of Chicago is committed to helping every Chicagoan participate in the 2020 Census. This is our opportunity to work together to ensure a fair and accurate count in the 2020 decennial census. Here's how:
- The City of Chicago, in partnership with Forefront's IL Count Me In 2020 program for Census outreach purposes, will be provide funding to community-based organizations to educate and engage their constituents on the 2020 Census.
- Applicant organizations with budgets of $1 million or less will be given first preference.
- Historically undercounted communities (families of color, children under five-years-old, the elderly, veterans, returning residents, individuals with high rates of mobility and housing instability, residents with disabilities, those with limited access to the Internet, and those who may be afraid to participate) are encouraged to apply.
- In particular, the following City communities had the lowest response rates in 2010, and organizations serving these communities are highly encouraged to apply: West Garfield Park, Washington Park, North Lawndale, Lower West Side, New City, Englewood, East Garfield Park, Humboldt Park, South Lawndale, West Englewood, Fuller Park, and South Chicago.
- The grant application portal went live on Forefront's website as of midnight, Monday, December 16, 2019; The portal will accept applications through 11:59pm on Wednesday, January 15, 2020; Grant decisions will be committed by January 31, 2020, and funds will be disbursed by mid-February.
- In advance of the 2020 Census, the U.S. Census Bureau is recruiting thousands of people for temporary jobs across the country.
- The temporary positions include: Census Takers, Census Field Supervisors, Recruiting Assistants, Office Operations Supervisor.
- Candidates must complete an online job application; The application includes assessment questions about education, work, and other experience.
- Positions for the 2020 Census are located throughout the United States and Puerto Rico.
- Pay rates can vary by position and location; Find the pay rates in your area using the interactive map.
