Lakeway Activity Center
The New Year is fast approaching! It is time to renew your Activity Center membership. Membership is $30 for Lakeway residents and $80 for those living outside of Lakeway. The rate is per entire household! There are many membership perks... discounts on room rentals and classes, early registration/premier seats for events which sell out quickly, free notary (with appointment), free local and 1-800 faxes, plus more. Your membership helps support our free concerts, fun family events, blood drives, the paperback and little free outdoor library and more.

Only 2020 members may renew online for 2021. After December 31, online renewals will be disabled.

Young Rembrandt's Holiday Camp
The deadline to sign up for the Young Rembrandt's Holiday Break Camp is December 23! This class is held Dec 28-31 from 9am-12pm. Join the Anime Manga workshop and learn to draw your favorite Japanese style art. This four-day workshop will tap into everyone’s imagination while learning to draw cute manga inspired characters, accessories and costumes. Your child’s talent is about to take off - register now to save your child’s spot in this kawaii workshop focused on technique and creativity! (photo is actual students work from class)

Adult Classes
Therapeutic Yoga/Tai Chi
Dr. Arbeit has quite a life story…after a severe accident, he lived a portion of life filled with immobility and pain. He is very passionate about this program and attributes his current health and well-being to TaiChi and Yoga, techniques which enhance the immune system, increase range of movement, and improve outlook of life both physically and mentally. There are many class times to choose from, so sign up today. Classes will be held at the Activity Center January-March, and then will be held at the Sculpture Garden beginning in April. The Sculpture Garden is located at the corner of Cross Creek and Lohmans Crossing at 104 Cross Creek and class is under the large oak tree.

Tai Chi & Qigong in the Park w/ Gayl Hubatch
Gayl has traveled the world and studied TaiChi with world renown Masters. She is excited to share her knowledge with you. Tai Chi involves a sequence of movements and steps that train the brain to: improve balance and cognitive function, increase flexibility and strength, deepen and improve lung function and immunity.
This class is held at 8:30am on Tuesdays at the basketball court City Park.

Most people can practice Tai Chi arts in spite of handicaps or ailments. Numerous illnesses have shown improvement with regular practices of Tai Chi exercises.
Adult Fitness with Coach Will
Coach Will is a certified Physical Fitness Trainer with a black belt. He has trained and competed (and won) in competition TaeKwonDo. His adult fitness classes utilizes techniques from kick-boxing, TaeKwonDo, physical training and more. Techniques taught will be modified for individual fitness levels. If you are looking for a positive, well balanced program which challenges you as it helps you set goals, build muscle, burn fat and improve over-all well-being, this is the program for you!$90 for Members / $100 Non-Members

Pickleball
PICKLEBALL WITH SKYHAWKS:  For the last several years, the sport of pickleball has been dubbed the “fastest growing sport in America.” One reason for it's popularity is that it is a fun sport for all ages and all levels of fitness. Pickleball is a combination of tennis, ping-pong and badminton played on one-third the size of a tennis court using a larger racquet and a lighter ball.  League play includes t-shirt, trophies!

Chair Yoga with Monika

Chair yoga helps provide a full vertebral workout from a chair! Chair yoga is recommended for folks recovering from injuries or who may have difficulty getting up and down off the floor. Many of the stretches and moves are useful for those who sit in front of their computer for long periods during the day. Regardless if you are maintaining health or trying to improve, chair yoga is a gentle and successful way to maintain proper alignment, balance and sense of well being. Class is instructed by Monika Orr.

Yoga with Well-Being
YOGA FOR WELL BEING: Kate teaches a mindful, breath-centric classes.  This program helps students of all ages explore how to unwind painful patterns, correct physical tightness or weakness, melt the grip of stress and generally improve function in daily life with minimal transitions to and from the floor. Everyone is encouraged to do only as much as is comfortable but modifications and alternatives are offered to help provide a complete yoga work out.

Low Impact Aerobic Class
Improve your aerobic fitness, strength and endurance using light weights and a variety of exercises in a fun way. Class also improves balance, coordination and mobility. Certified Fitness Instructor Stephanie McMurray has been teaching fitness classes in the Lakeway community for over 25 years. People of all ages and fitness levels are encouraged to come to my class and get an overall body workout.

Tae Kwon Do

Coach Will and his family all have black belts and have competed and won national championships. He has a passion for TaeKwonDo and enjoys sharing his passion for the sport with all ages of students. The 5 major components for TaeKwonDo are Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self-Control and indomitable Spirit. Your young martial artist will truly be inspired and will be surprised by the life lessons and health benefits received by taking the class.

Fencing
Discover the Olympic Sport of Fencing! Prevost d’ Armes Coach Murray competes and has instructed team and competitive fencing to students in local competitions and has had previous students compete all the way to the Olympics. Whether you want to compete professionally or just continue because of your competitive nature, this program will continue training skills in attacking and defending, footwork, blade work , agility, balance, strategy, sportsmanship and the rules of the game in this world renown sport! Students MUST wear long comfortable pants, athletic shoes and t-shirt.

Skyhawks provides a wide variety of fun, safe and positive programs that emphasize critical lessons in sports and life, such as teamwork, respect and sportsmanship. Soccer Shots
Soccer Shots is the national leader in youth soccer development. This program has been created under the guidance of childhood education specialists, MLS and USL professional soccer players, and experienced and licensed soccer coaches. Our innovative lesson plans are developmentally appropriate and tailored specifically to the three distinct age groups we teach. Soccer Shots aims to leave a lasting, positive impact on every child we serve. Through fun games, songs, and positive reinforcement, children will begin to experience the joy of playing soccer and being active. Registration is directly through Soccer Shots. There is an additional registration fee annually.

LittleFreeLibrary is open!!!
The Free Little Library charter number 112025 is now open! Check out how we repurposed an old ice cream freezer into a library! Currently it is stocked with lots of kids books and "how to" and cookbooks for adults! LittleFreeLibrary.org is a worldwide nonprofit that aims to inspire a love of reading and creativity through its neighborhood book exchanges. The Activity Center is the fifth Lakeway site for the movement.  92% of the people say their community seems friendlier with a little library in their neighborhood. 3 out of 4 report they have read a book they would not have normally read because of Little Free Libraries.
Paperback Library
The Activity Center paperback library is open. Please wear your mask whenever entering the facility. We encourage you to call us at 512-261-1010 prior to coming to the center. Due to covid, we are limiting the number of people in the library. You are welcome to drop off books at the front door or in the lobby.
Ginger Bread House Contest
The Parks & Recreation Department is sponsoring a virtual contest now through December 28. Decorate your gingerbread house and email your photo entries to: [email protected]. Call 512-314-7532 for additional information.

Blood Drive - January 16
Blood Drive – Saturday, January 16, 8am-12pm. In order to ensure proper social/physical distancing guidelines are adhered to, donors must make an appointment in advance. Scavenger Hunt
The City of Lakeway Parks & Recreation Department has a virtual scavenger hunt through December! If you're able to find all 12 displays, you could win a prize! Return the scavenger hunt form, along with at least one photo of yourself on the hunt to [email protected]. All submissions are due by midnight on January 4, 2021. Good "Time" Hunting
Kick off the New Year with Parks & Recreation by joining us for the Good “Time” Clock Hunt January 1-10. There will be ten hidden clocks in Lakeway City Park (located at 502 Hurst Creek Rd, Lakeway, TX 78734). Find the clocks, scan the codes, and you will be entered into a prize drawing.
