The Lakewood Industrial Commission (LIC) was established in 1960 under the enabling statute: N.J.S.A.  40:55B-1 et seq.. Its volunteer commissioners are charged with fostering local and regional economic growth, increasing employment opportunities, and promoting the economic well-being of businesses in Lakewood Township.

The Lakewood Industrial Parks is the second largest industrial park system in New Jersey, covering 2000+ acres. More than 400 businesses, which have created and support 7,000 to 10,000 jobs, are located within Lakewood's M-1 (Industrial) and PS (Industrial Park Professional Service) Zones.

Lakewood Community Shuttle Logo

When the Job Link bus service, funded by the Lakewood Development Corporation, ended after more than 15 years of service, many employees in the Lakewood Industrial Park had no way to get to work. Some paid as much as $20.00 for private transportation.

After a hiatus of about six weeks, this March Lakewood Township instituted a new public transportation system called the Lakewood Community Shuttle through the efforts of the Lakewood Township Committee; Steven Reinman, the director of economic development; and a grant from NJ Transit.

The shuttle service is initially providing two main bus routes: one from Westgate to the Yeshiva/Georgian Court University area, to Central Avenue and back to Westgate; and the other the former Job Link route with shuttle service to the Lakewood Industrial Parks.

According to Rivky Greenspan, VP of Operations for Lakewood Community Shuttle Inc., the company that operates the shuttles, more than 100 riders are taking advantage of the former Job Link route alone, with the number of riders going to and from work steadily increasing each week. People will be able to ride at no charge for the first three months. After that, each ride will cost $1.00.

Lakewood Township's Lakewood Airport (N12) has plans to add a terminal building with public meeting facilities, a restaurant, an emergency services facility, aircraft  hangars, additional tie-down spaces, helipad, and  a  self-service fueling station.

Projects Underway:

Construction of T-Hangars to serve small aircraft - Lakewood Airport estimates that Phase I of availability of T-Hangars will be late 2015.

Lakewood Township is in the process of
acquiring two small parcels south of RWE 6 in order to remove obstructions that would recapture a usable portion of Lakewood Airport's existing runway.

NEW

 OFFICE SPACE

  UNDER CONSTRUCTION

Mark Chopp, Lakewood, a developer and president of Lakewood Equity Group, has broken ground on a 60,000-square-foot office building at 15 America Avenue and the corner of New Hampshire Avenue, Lakewood, on property sold by the Lakewood Industrial Commission (LIC). The four-story Class A office building, with easy access from either New Hampshire or Cedar Bridge avenues, is designed as a business and professional center, with about 15,000 square feet of space on each floor.

The building will be constructed of a mixture between sleek to modern designs with large windows in every office, and individualized heating and cooling. The first two floors will accommodate small to mid-sized tenants who need between 1,500 to 3,000 square feet of space. The top floors are being reserved for tenants needing larger space.

Ray Builders, a company that has built more than $400 million in projects in the tri-state area, including Manhattan, are the builders for this project. Chopp said he decided to build this "premier" office building for several reasons. continue reading...
